It can't be hard for a GM to say "take the deal or your staying here".
Especially if the best deal comes from a team he doesn't want to go to. - Steven_Dean
Just cant help but think of the Heatly Edmonton saga...
Cogliano, Penner, and Smid sure looks better than Michalek, Cheechoo, and a second round pick in 2010 (used to trade for Andy Sutton) |

Meh, if a GM is stupid enough to trade for or sign a guy with NTC then its his problem. Player probably took aa slight discount to get it |

Ales Hemsky?
Cap hit is about the same. Erat is a little heavier. Could Erat play well in the bottom 6? |

I was thinking the same. Both may need a change in scenery. |

Neither. |

As a Caps fan, I don't much of the western conference. I remember Booth from his Panther days where he could be counted on for 20/20 on a yearly basis. Just how bad has he been with Vancouver? Why hasn't he turned his game around since coming to the Canucks?
I might be a bit off here, but any chance of the Caps getting Sam Gagner? He only has 1 g 4 a & -9 through 12 games. I'm guessing not Erat alone, but would Edmonton consider moving him given that the season is all but lost?
I don't see GMGM looking at Hemsky, Heatley, or Leino. I like the idea of Michalek, but I don't see Murray swapping for Erat. |

I think its worth looking at from a Senators perspective. Erats actual salary paid out for this year is 3.75 and next year its 2.25 with a cap hit of 4.5 for both years. That's more in the wheel house of Melynk than paying the 6 million that Michalek is being paid in actual salary this year. Yes Washington would be paying more but they would be getting out of a contract a year earlier. While Ottawa would gain a cheaper salary payout with a similar cap hit between the two players. Heck if Washington was interested I'd through in Filatov's rights. A change of scenery could do wonders for both. |

If it was a straight 1 for 1, buyers exchange cap scenario trade- I think Murray would absolutely do it. He might ask for something extra, like a late round pick or up in the air prospect, but that's just because he's a good GM. |

Woah, not interested. Hemsky playing well and finally pretty healthy who wants to be here vs. Erat who's playing crummy and pouted his way out of his last two organizations. |

How about Ville Leino and Jamie McBain from Buffalo for Martin Erat and Dmitry Orlov?? Leino and Erat both have $4.5 million per year cap hits, Leino is 2 years younger but also has 2 more years on his current contract. Both players have been better with their prior teams, so maybe a change of scenery would work out? McBain has a really nice shot from the point on the PP, but isn't getting a chance with all the changes happening in Buffalo... Orlov wants out of DC, so maybe something there? Personally, I'd love to find a way to entice the Caps with a deal involving Steve Ott for Troy Brouwer... but that probably isn't going to happen. |

Gagner has a NMC in his new contract... so he isn't likely to be traded anywhere. |
