How? - LeftCoaster
Trade him for a low pick, retain some of his salary. Both options are better than simply replacing Erat and his cap hit for Booth, an offensive player that hasn't found offense in years and struggles to maintain full fitness. |

Not necessarily. Erat has a decent track record of putting up points for an offenisvely challenged team (NSH). It's just clear that there was simply no fit for him in WSH for whatever reason. I wouldn't say he was tarnished goods just yet. Booth on the other hand is definitely tarnished. |

I hope one of those pro scouts was from washington. Erat could easily play on the second line or with the twins. Anything is better than booth. Anything. |

What if we retain say 1.2 million of Booth's salary? |

I don't disagree but given other teams cap situations the partners will be few lowering his value even more |

I wouldn't. What if Erat is done? Then we pay him 4.5 and booth 1.2. Rather buy booth out |

Erat's salary is only $2.25 next year. |

If they take Booth as any part of a deal, it would be clear that the old adage of the East not staying up late enough to know what the West is doing would never be more true. |

Most definitely. The only teams that I can see may have some interest (without taking any salary back) are:
Colorado (11.9m in cap space)
NYI (11.2m)
Ottawa (8.4m)
Apart from them, any interested team would need to be trading some salary in return. |

I don't know that Erat is done - he just tanked the moment he went to the Caps.
He was scoring at his usual pace - 21 pts in 36 games, then he was traded, 3 points in 9 games. Now he has 6 in 21.
His dollar value is also quite low compared to his cap hit for the last two years. 3.7mil and 2.5 mil. cap hit 4.5
I could see a team that needs the cap hit but not the expenditure take Erat, likely not the nucks. Although Washington is the old SE div, maybe they could spin that Booth did all his production there and the bears in the west are distracting him from hockey. |

Not for me. You make the best decision possible at the time and hope you made the right choice. Sometimes you're rigth, or if you're Mike Gillis, most of the time you're wrong. |

How so? Erat was clocking at a 0.75 PPG pace for the past 3 years leading up to this season.
Sturm was a reclamation project long before he was wearing an orca jersey.
Everyone on here wants some changes made but no one wants to give up anything or apparently take anyone on who isn't a well established young star in the midst of a 10 game point streak.
If Gillis can find a way to take Erat on for the next 1.5 seasons it's an opportunity worth pursuing. We need a top 6 playmaker, here you go. |
