I agree but we have been in that situation for a couple seasons now. We just seemed to think it was all AV's fault. Turns out that, even though his time had passed, it clearly wasn't only his coaching that was lacking here.

When AV had a much deeper team he took them to within 1 game of the Stanley Cup. It's debatable whether the team the year after was deeper than this one, and I'm fairly certain this year's team is no worse than last year's.

But as you say, a reload of player personnel is required.

Technically anything's debateable.

I'll take Hodgson as the 2LC (which AV was so against he had Gillis trade him), Kesler on the wing (which AV was so against he had Gillis trade Hodgson), the Sedins & D-corps in their primes (which is no longer the case) and a blue chip goaltender playing ahead of Luongo as soon as he had proven himself (which in reality was BEFORE the Luongo lifetime extension) ahead of any of what Torts has to work with. AV leased a brand new luxury vehicle... Totaled it... Moved on... Torts got it at a shady used car lot... Older... Accidents on record... Warranty's run out...
