If Bozak and Bolland were both on the open market, who would be offered more money and term? As a center, I think Bolland gets more. Better offensive number and two Cup rings in which he played a large role in shutting down the other teams better players.
- LeftCoaster

There is no way to answer this. It's a question that can't be answered. Problem is, the Cup winning team traded him, so clearly he wasn't a top player for them or as important as their core players. Most importantly, they aren't on the open market, and Bolland might not make it there. This is you trying to build a case on "what ifs", assumptions, guesses, troll intentions and other various nonsensicle ramblings.

Ya spread out Dion's minutes between the other guys and see what happens. Franson has played protected minutes since he got here, Gunnarsson is so-so-so average, and the rest wouldn't be able to keep up with a good top line, let alone defend them.

Trading Phanuef at the deadline is season/cup suicide. Leafs are not afraid to take chances, but if the options are certain death or life... I'll choose the staying alive one, and so will Nonis.

What world do you live in that Gunnar is "so-so-so average"??

Why two "M"s? 5MM instead of 5M?

Curious - not trying to be condescending or a spelling nazi.

- charlieb83

To be honest I have no idea. I have just always done it that way. Believe me, that is nothing. Walk into a Sabres thread sometime. It is out of control. eveyone hates everyone else, adn spelling nazis are always ready to pounce.

Granny Smith and Macintosh are my top two apples.

We're talking Luongo VS Schneider, who stays and who goes...no?

- systemtool

Schneider has the best wieners...

If he even makes it. People assume Bolland will be a UFA no questions asked. He's working on an extension currently, according to Sportsnet, so he could be signed long before he gets to the off season. So to assume he's a lock for 5 million is absurd.
- systemtool

my assumption is that he'd get $5 million on the open market.
i think he could wind up signing in Toronto for a bit less if he really wants to stay. but not a ton less. think he gets a decent bump from his current hit.

Absolutely, I think he'll re-sign and get 4.2 to 4.5. I'm just saying that based on last years FA market, (if he were to get to that point), I could see him being offered 5 by another team who's desperate for depth down the middle.

He won't get $5 million... but he'll likely get a $1 million per raise and top out at $4.5 million at the highest... 3rd line C doesn't make $5+ million long term...

IF we were to trade Dion at the deadline, it would be for a bonafide number one centre. That is the only thing we need more than him.

Bolland MAY be offered a bigger deal, but not because he's a better offensive player. His current deal was signed after he peaked offensively in 08/09 with 47 points. He hasn't reached those levels since then.

He might. But he's hurt now and will be for a good while to come. Makes it hard to negotiate a hefty raise. He might get a bump into the 4's and I don't mind that, but he won't be making 5+ million. Not if he wants to stay here.

Letting Phaneuf go will definitely come back to haunt the Leafs. Him and Gunner have been really good this year. As for the Leafs being outshot every game this has nothing to do with him. Watch the games and you will see they just like to pass pass pass all the time and often they turnover the puck doing so which results in a shot(s) for the other team. If they could somehow magically get him to sign for 6 mill a year it would be a good deal.

It's possible. Just about all UFA's are over paid, which is the whole point for the players.

Well take a guess for cryin out loud, this is all just theory and suppose to be for fun....no?

See I think Cup teams clearing salary for ELC makes perfect sense. If you end up trying to keep all your vets you run into the problem the Canucks and Mike Gillis have. An aging downhill sliding team, that's why they should let Phaneuf walk and give a bigger role to the younger players. Allows them to keep and sign some important guys.

i actually disagree with this. Only because we have depth at centre, even though we don't have a #1. We'd get killed if you took dion away and didn't replace him.
