Why two "M"s? 5MM instead of 5M?
Curious - not trying to be condescending or a spelling nazi. - charlieb83
Roman numerals
"M" = 1000 and is a multiple of the number in from of it
M = 1000 Therefore 5M = 5000
MM = "M" X "M" Therefore 5MM = 5,000,000

I love the girardi move, but dion needs to stay. We need to add more D to our squad, not just replace the little bit of D we have. I've been hoping for a girardi move all year, it may involve gardiner and the NYR falling in the standings though. We also don't need a centre, unless you plan on moving Kadri, which i would if it netted us a better centre - clark_griswold
Dion stays, gotta take a small pay cut to keep our team competitive.
If we have to squeeze out another important piece do we want to be tied to Dion for 7 years?
I like the guy, but he's no Bobby Orr and some times he leaves his brain in his lunch pail during the game, like the very 1st shift last game

Yes, Kadri would be gone. Tremendous talent, too inconsistent. |

Not gonna happen... he holds the cards. I could maybe see a shorter term contract but I think the Leafs are paying Dion's rate... |

Phanuef is worth the cap hit he is making now: $ 6.5M a year.
This isn't as complicated and can work for both the leafs and Phaneuf if they structure the contract properly. Give him a contract where it's front loaded.
$ 38M next 5 years. $ 44M next 6 years.
[Years 1-3: 8M... Years 4-5: 7M... Year 6: 6M... Year 7-8: 4M] |

People are pretty hard on Phaneuf. I can't say what kind of dressing room leader he is, and I suppose it's fair to point out some of his faults, but seriously, there are very few D-Men in the league that bring what he does. For Physical D that provide offence everyone looks at Pronger as the mold, with Chara and Weber as kinda the top players of that distinction in the league today. I might not quite put Dion in that category, but there are very few better in the league today. I would love him on my team! |

we have 2.5 mil coming off the books (buyout/ retained salary) If Phaneuf gets 7, that means we got both Kessel/Phaneuf locked up with only an extra 0.6 million per. I expect one of Franson/Gardiner to be moved, as both will be looking for big raises. We have one of the most dynamic young d-men in the league (Rielly) so one of those guys might be expendable - GardinerExpress
um... they already gave that 2.5M to Kessel. His new deal doesn't start till next year.
only 100k left for Phaneuf
suck it up Dion |

This sucks if TSN is shut out completely.
The Sportsnet broadcasters are nowhere near as entertaining as the panel on TSN shows. |

I would imagine they are going to bring over a lot of the TSN talent. That's what CBS did when they won the NFL rights from NBC back in 1998. Fox did the same to CBS in 1994 when they won the NFL rights as well. |

I certainly hope so. But it's hard to imagine Bob on any other station than TSN. |

So if I understand correctly, this does not affect RDS because it's French. RDS is a sub division of TSN/Bell Media and would hate to lose them on the Habs coverage.
Sportnet.... never been a big fan of. |

In addition, the NHL says the agreement guarantees that there will be no further regionalization of games or local blackouts. Rogers has three exclusive windows to broadcast any game involving a Canadian team — Wednesday nights, Saturday nights (including CBC) and Sunday nights.

As part of the deal, Rogers says the CBC will continue to broadcast its iconic Hockey Night in Canada and that the TVA network in Quebec has all of the Canadian French-language multi-media rights. |
