Vancouver ownership obviously said no. I don't know why they don't get more heat in Vancouver over that. - RogerRoeper
Because right now Lu is playing well.
It's only a problem if Lu becomes a problem. |

that's a pretty bold and incorrect statement. - Fakepartofme
there's no UFA out there, and you get Dion free (of assets) besides cash where to acquire someone else, you'd have to give up significant assets. unless you are one of those ppl who think you can get 2 guys to replace him. I never hear how to replace Dion, or anything logical anyways. |

It's tough being a D-Man in Toronto making a lot of money. the media just gets all over you. Remember the fuss over Bryan Mccabe? |

They do. Fact is Aquilini is going through a messy divorce and can't buy him out. Hence the trade of CS. Vancouver fans are actually very pissed at Canuck ownership and management. |

"Spread-Out The Minutes" is such a silly argument we see. No one can shutdown guys like Crosby like Dion does. |

Hell, remember Hal Gill?
People freaked out because he was making $2 million a year. We ran him out of town.
Stupid. |

Yup. People say Leaf players get a lot of acclaim in Toronto, but holy poop, they get so much more criticism. The crap againat McCabe actually lowerd his trade value. |

I love it. Like it's so easy, 'just let franson/gunnar play more'...amazing.
Some ppl really have no knowledge of the game, but i digress... |

Or retires before his contract is up. Hopefully Horvat will pan out because the extra 1.2 mil cap space with Schneider would be nice to have over the next two years.

Ummm you may be incorrect on that. There was and still is some talk of them buying him out. That alone is proof they regret it.the structure of those contracts was horrid and made guys untraceable and now there are penalties in place to penalize teams that did it.
That being said though the max of 8 yrs is a different ball game than what Hossa signed for. - Iggysbff
Never heard of that and I think they'd be stupid to do it. |

Will these same conversations of worth be thrown around when talking about PK resigning? Sure he's more of an offensive threat, but Dion is more solid in his own zone. |

i still think PK will grow to be a defensive player like dion did. Very similar when dion was young. High risk/reward players. |

This is my first post. But IMO, I think we move him. We need a prototypical shut down defenceman. How about Girardi from NYR. He is also coming up on UFA.
Can we make a splash with Kuli + (Fraser, Ranger, Holzer) one of our lower pair d-men for Girardi? Then move Dion for a potential top 6 forward (preferably up the middle)
Come back with a top 6 of Franson, Girardi, Gardiner, Gunnerson, Rielly, MacWilliam (granberg maybe)
There are a some decent shut down d-men available if they make it to UFA (Orpik). Why not swap a soon to be UFA (Phaneuf) for another soon to be UFA that fills a void (Thornton, Stastny)
Just my 2 cents. He is good but he may price himself out of Toronto and not give us anyroom to improve. |

I don't think Kuli + one of those others gets you Girardi. Especially as the Rags are now in a playoff fight. |

I love the girardi move, but dion needs to stay. We need to add more D to our squad, not just replace the little bit of D we have. I've been hoping for a girardi move all year, it may involve gardiner and the NYR falling in the standings though. We also don't need a centre, unless you plan on moving Kadri, which i would if it netted us a better centre |
