I used to respect Macnow's opinion on hockey but he really just rolled out the "gave up too early" criticism regarding the Flyers trade of JVR for Luke Schenn, stating the trade was a total bust. I'm paraphrasing but that was the gist.

Look, it doesn't look like a great trade now but people too quickly dismiss the fact that Schenn and JVR are BOTH 24 years old and Schenn plays a position that typically takes a little longer to round into form. AND, I thought Schenn played great last year, I'm hoping that type of play comes back around as we go forward.

I know WIP is popular here but I alway thought Macnow was above the cliche evaluations of hockey. Guess I'm wrong.

Eh, I'm no big fan 'IP. I stopped listening to sports radio a long time ago.

Sports radio has been doing what is called "Internet Trolling" before there was an Internet. I just don't have the time for that or the callers that wait an interminable amount of time to call in and say nothing.

The big concerns for Flyers fans is that they failed to maximize an asset. I like Luke Schenn, but his potential ceiling is likely not worth JvR's potential ceiling.

I think Schenn can be a very solid top 4 defenseman that can be physical and be a shutdown type guy. Not sure I'd trade a potential 30 goal power forward for that.

- Jsaquella

I'd like to see JvR score more than 21-goals again before I'd posit that he's actually 30-goal guy. Before anybody chimes in with the "he was on pace for...", it's worth pointing out that he scored 12 of his 18 in the first few weeks of the season before his production fell off a cliff. Now, he's already cooling off after a hot start this season as well.

With that said, even if JvR settles into a mid-20's goalscorer, if Schenn emerges as a rock-solid top-4 SAH dman, that'll be an even trade in my book.

I did say potential 30 goal scorer.

It is what it is, but in hindsight, I'd rather have seen them trade for a guy like Gardiner.

yeah but that's b/c there is a NEED right now for a guy like Gardiner...what if we didn't have Schenn and Grossman was injured (and never signed Gill). do you think we would be missing a physical element on our blue line? that, in my mind, would be a better way to assess the trade.

we have a bunch of potential 20+ scorers right now (unfortunately, also a handful of physical dmen)...i don't think we need a 20+ scorer who is under 25 ANY MORE than we need a physical dman who can play a top 4 role.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like I was singling you out... just that most people in general speak about that trade as if JvR's actually done something significant since that trade.

I agree that they should/could have gotten more, but I'm thinking the extension and his inconsistency worried potential buyers.

Agreed on the inconsistency.

Still don't necessarily see Schenn as a need, as they would soon have had to replace both Timonen & Carle.

Does anyone know any info on the Frozen Four in Philly this year? I'm trying to get tickets for my dad for the holidays and I can't seem to figure out if these VIP packages are the only thing available, or if they've yet to make tickets available to the public.

It certainly still has the potential to be a total bust. I'm certainly not going to grab 20 games from last season and say he's a first paring Dman just like I'm not going to take the first 20 of this season and say he's a 5 t0 7.

I don't see why you think his opinion is so far off. There are plenty of people who consider them selves fairly educated hockey fans who see that trade as trending heavily toward a bust at this point. I'm not quite there but I'm leaning that way.

I said at the time and continue to say they sold way too low on vanRiemsdyk coming of a couple injuries that season.

I'm very disappointed in Glen's dependence on Panaccio since Glen moved to days. It seems when he was a solo guy at night he had a much better handle on the sport.

They were made available to Flyers STHs but I don't think the general public. I would assume that much of the ticket inventory is tied up with the NCAA.

Priority 0 tix are on sale now. 3 sections downstairs at $500 per. all upstairs at $250 per. Tix must be bought by this Friday. (I believe the per is for both days, as in $500 for one seat for all games that weekend)

I like Luke but it does seem Toronto is looking like they got the better of the deal. You win some, you lose some.
