There were more than a couple on this thread who were freaking right the hell out.

There was one regular really freaking out. His name escapes me...but it seemed 4 of 5 were pretty much on board.

This guy. But I'm biased, so I maintain my stance despite Downie's play.

It's a long season and way too early to close the analysis on the trade. I'd recommend both sides shut their pie holes until the season is over.

I've actually been busy with work most of the day and I'm starting to resent it.

Sadly I'm at work.
Tomorrow is a "bowling outing" for the team so I won't be around much and they better let us go early Wed or I go postal!

The only thing I want to think about Wednesday afternoon is a convenient time to sneak out.

Unacceptable. I mean, I'm in a malaise all day everyday and I still find time to post.

The emergency exit with the alarm is NOT the correct way

We have Pubs going out each day. No early outs.

We do have Black Friday off for the first time in 25 years.

apparently dude's got a whole lot of issues with Schenn and Hartnel hates him...but he's certainly a top pairing dman.

Something does check out.. I mean, how many true top pairing d-men are constantly rumored to be traded?

I used to respect Macnow's opinion on hockey but he really just rolled out the "gave up too early" criticism regarding the Flyers trade of JVR for Luke Schenn, stating the trade was a total bust. I'm paraphrasing but that was the gist.

Look, it doesn't look like a great trade now but people too quickly dismiss the fact that Schenn and JVR are BOTH 24 years old and Schenn plays a position that typically takes a little longer to round into form. AND, I thought Schenn played great last year, I'm hoping that type of play comes back around as we go forward.

I know WIP is UN-popular here but I alway thought Macnow was above the cliche evaluations of hockey. Guess I'm wrong.

Well Lecavalier didn't have love lost between a few players on the Flyers. You can put that stuff behind you. Its the fact you have a problem with a guy when playing with him. Maybe same thing Berube didnt like... Who knows...

The big concerns for Flyers fans is that they failed to maximize an asset. I like Luke Schenn, but his potential ceiling is likely not worth JvR's potential ceiling.

I think Schenn can be a very solid top 4 defenseman that can be physical and be a shutdown type guy. Not sure I'd trade a potential 30 goal power forward for that.

And I don't think WIP is popular here, in fact I think it's the opposite.

Agreed, there are plenty of ways to criticize the deal, I just don't think the "gave up too early" criticism is just. I remember at the time plenty of people on these boards also mentioning the Flyer's dire need for Dmen. Some of that may have lessened as our young corp of D projects looks much more promising now than it did when the trade was made but Schenn was a need when we made the deal.

I mean un-popular. Sorry about that.

I figured on a slow day, ranting about them would be ok.
