It's just laziness. Looking at scoring chances involves doing some actual work. It's much easier to go off of shot totals that someone else is counting for them.

He makes them look so awful though. He kind of shrugs and throws his glove up and looks down at the ice. It looks more like he's flinching than making a save.

I know Phaneuf gets crapped on for playing too recklessly at times, but he's dynamite when he jumps in the rush.

I think he hits his knees a little too soon and too often, but he kind of compensates with some very quick reflexes.

He still has the ability to make saves up top (albeit awkwardly), but he also covers the bottom half of the net. Quite a unique style. Not orthodox, but all he does is stop pucks and win games.
