its pretty weird right now. nolan wasnt brought in to make sure they lose. there is no GM.

nolan was brought in to change the culture from the regier era. maybe rolston would've succeeded, maybe not, but the veterans stopped caring about playing for him because it was pretty clear that they would be picked off one by one in favor of young guys. whether those young guys earned their spots, who knows, whether they're better, even harder to really say. They probably need more time to develop and it's probably better for them. Some of them would have been ok in the old culture but some would have been stunted for sure.

Even if they have nolan they're really not guaranteed too many wins. They're just not good enough to "win now" anyways. They'll lose with more dignity then they did under rolston. They'll probably finish with more points but i'd be surprised if they did well enough to finish better than 2nd or 3rd overall. The tank is still on, they just want the plays to be in a culture that gives a damn and takes pride in the game they play instead of just punching the clock. Theoretically, with the right players drafted and proper development, this should shorten the rebuild.

Nolan was brought in for PR's sake more than anything else. The firing of Regier and Rolston was to prevent a fan mutiny. Look at what happened today: the Sabres had a food drive with Entercom where if you donated a turkey to the City Mission, you got a free pair of tickets to an upcoming game. You can only pull that off if you have tickets available. Given the long line in traffic on the 290 and Maple Road this morning, they gave away a lot of tickets. You can only do that if you're not selling them. Their ticket sales were taking a hit. The fanbase was restless. The plan is still essentially the same. There's just different faces in front of it: and those faces just happen to be two local folk heroes.

they did the turkey drive 2 years ago when less tickets were available.

you're being too cynical.

yes, ted nolan specifically coming back is a PR move, but they also did it because they don't have a GM and rolston was awful. They need a change quickly and it was either stay with rolston or get a new guy that's temporary and let him turn things around. they went with who they knew, lots of clubs do that. we're getting a new gm, he'll hire a new coach and we'll be a different team when they start making some trades and we draft really high this year. we'll probably still be really bad and draft him next year too. change isn't bad.

3rd round pick for Myers.

downgrades to a 4th if he plays more than 20 games.

Do you guys take that deal?

Any reason the Sabres blogger doesn't post anything even on game days? They play on fri and sat with a new coach and he doesn't post till Monday. The last two game days nothing either
