I'm noticing a lot of people (not just here) that think Cammalleri will get Calgary a bigger return than Iginla did.
My question is does the ability to retain salary (which increases the number of teams that can acquire him) really raise his value that much?
I think Calgary will get an A prospect OR a 1st round pick (and maybe a smaller piece) at best, not both. - Steven_Dean
Well Bowmeester got a better return than Iginla. Iginla apparently was pittsburgh or nothing so the management did as best they could with playing pittsburgh against other teams.
Cami will get a 1st and either a mid level prospect or a NHL ready prospect (Colburn type but likely looking for a RW). |

I wouldn't do it if I were CGY. Anderson isn't playing well and is getting up there in age. You can get a stable vet goalie if you are CGY for a lot cheaper.
Cammi will get them some decent future assets. 11 points his last 11 games played, with retained salary Cammi is worth a 1st + a decent prospect. |

Bouwmeester wasn't a rental though, I think Cammalleri will fetch a solid return but I don't think it will be twice what Iginla got them. Even with all the extra teams trying to get him. |

I was always a fan of Camallari, he was deadly against the Pens when he was on the Habs, with his contract and injury history. I wouldn't expect much more than what you got for Iginla. 2nd and a prospect tops. |

ummmm no!!!!
Flames are going to want young players if they are taking back NHL players. If Berra and Ramo don't work out i could see the Flames going after someone like Reimer in the summer.
I could see Cammi's value as a 1st and mid prospect by the trade deadline. The biggest question is do the flames take their chances that he is healthy and can be traded at the deadline or trade him sooner?

This is just an example but if you take a team like Vancouver or the NYR. Both teams are in a fight for their lives to make the playoffs, so a team like that imo with the fear of missing the playoffs may be willing to make a deal sooner rather than later. And possibly could over pay... |

Something like this could be a possibility for Calgary.
6mil Cammy -> to the wild
7 mil Heatly -> Calgary
1st -> Calgary + prospect
if they want us to retain salary then send us something else too?
I haven't looked at their lines so no idea how he would fit in, just thought that heatley was an expensive 4th line as I remember him playing there earlier this year. |

Doesn't make any sense at all for CGY IMO. Also, I think Cammi (at $3mil especially) is worth more than Anderson. Now if want to add Ceci or something we can talk |

With our defensive problems, the last thing we should do is trade Ceci! I wouldn't be against trading Cowen, for the right price though. |

Cammy to Caps? - StephenKalil

What do you guys think of trying to pry Paajarvi out of STL for Cammi? Never really watched him play, but a former first rounder getting almost no ice time this year. Not real good for his development and STL would upgrade their left side for sure with Cammi.
I know STL just got him this summer, but seemed like part of the trade was to free up cap space to sign Pietrangelo, so I'm not sure if they are really high on Paajarvi. |

I would argue that if a trade were to be done before Dec. that it wouldn't be a rental either. I agree with Colin that aquiring players for a PO run, especially impact type fwds, is best done much earlierthan the deadline. We've seen it so many times that a contender loads up at the deadline but loses chemistry and goes nowhere. For instance, I think PHX could benefit from a Cammi type player but they have a very defensive system. Both the player and coaches would need to learn how to incorporate a pure offensive player like Cammi. That takes time; more than the 15-20 games that a deadline deal offers.
Also, it gives a team a lot more negotiating time with contracts. The NYI philosophy is that players will like what they see if they have the time to get acquainted. Visnovsky, Nabokov are 2 perfect examples of players that initially didn't want to go but then resigned. |

No way in hell we take Heatly on.
Why not just pile up 7mil and light it on fire?
that would be the biggest waste of money ever in the history of hockey.
even if they did throw more at us, no way.
I think takin a bad contract on is ok, providing the player still has something to offer other than his breakfast sandwich eating abilities |

If it meant Coyle coming with him, I would take what is left of Heatleys contract in a heartbeat.

Well Andy + Cowen for Cammalleri is a huge overpayment... you'd have to throw in something else |
