Pretty sure the narrative is that the Flyers made their own luck on that play.

For once lady luck smiled on us. How many times have we seen it go the other way?

Flyers have been well overdue, especially on offense (they weren't going to shoot 4% all year).

But let's be aware that Steve Mason is due for some bad bounces.

Only thing not to like about last nights game was the revolving door to the penalty box.

After starting 1-7, it's amazing to think they could be .500 before Thanksgiving.

I also don't like how they've forgotten how to kill penalties lately.

Yeah, the PK has been shaky lately. Best way to remedy that is stop taking so many damn penalties.

Or stop with the Rinaldo experiment.

How about barbed wire and saw blades?
- twotoekenn

Well you have to be careful. Anything protruding could probably get you in the box before deployment. However, if they wanted to line the inside of their gloves with blades for face washes, now we're talking.

He was amazing last year. I don't think he's (alone) the issue. He just needs to get back to last year's form.

I was actually thinking about replacing Rosehill's hands with wrapped clubs similar to the one Clay Matthews had, and lining the outside with some steel sheet metal. He doesn't really need a stick when he could just club people to death out there.
- jmatchett383

i saw that bowling ball strapped to matthews' hand and couldn't believe he was allowed to play with that thing.

I don't understand why they are trying to incorporate him on the PK. I guess the first time he takes a penalty and puts them down two men, that experiment will end.

Rosehill with a monster 3:11 of ice time last night. For a 13th forward it seems like he plays an awful lot.

listen, rosemont is a serviceable 13th forward nhl player. he's fine. he, as well as the 4th line never have any impact on the game whatsoever.

Trust me, I'm aware -- I've been beating the "there will be some regression" drum for a while, though I'm hopeful he still brings it home at .915 or so.

Normal ups and downs of a season. The Flyers started last season 2-for-8 on the PK and still wound up in the NHL's top five in basically a half season. I'm not too concerned about the PK right now so long as they are getting the better of even strength play and popping a few PPGs of their own (which has finally started happening over the last four games).

But, also, sometimes average goalies have magical seasons.

Would just be worried about the contract fall-out.

He will (eventually) had a slump. Even happens to the best. Lundqvist, Brodeur, hell, look at Quick's numbers before he went down. However, as long as the offense keeps putting the puck in the net, it should help ease the burden on him a bit so he doesn't have to steal games as often.

It really looks like the team is improving under Berube. I am ecstatic about Mason's play. I have been saying for a bit, I've seen enough and we need to extend him. Now the issue I am seeing is that if he plays this lights out all year, what is he going to want for money?

Man, CBJ got absolutely pummelled by Edmonton of all teams. Bob certainly doens't seem to have that magic this year, but the team also sucks. Suffice it to say, I am happy the way it worked out so far. Mason seems to be the real deal.

Yep. Have to give Berube some credit. He's got the team playing much better. Mason has been amazing. It almost feels like it's not real. He's started 21 games as a Flyer, and he hasn't had a bad game yet. Unreal.

True, but how often do average goalies have multiple magical seasons? One I can buy. (Jim Carey, anyone?) Two by the age of 25, though?

If Mason can keep it up, how long will it take for the national media to apologize and admit their mistake that Bob >>>> Mason?
