can't we just enjoy what mason is doing right now and worry about the contract when it happens?

no I don't go that far. I wouldn't get into it with other team's fans.

I get angry at the refs for missed calls and bad calls, mostly.

Ahhhhh... You're a hockey parent then.

I've learned to keep my mouth shut if I want to stay and watch. Hard lesson to learn.

Sure, if you're a HHOF talent, play in front of a uniquely-defensive system, surrounded by HHOF defenders, or are just plain lucky.

Maybe Mason gets lucky. I'm not putting money down on it.

my guess is that much like your animated avatar, no.
- hammarby31

Speaking of avatars, I'm not trying to be rude, but...seeing as you've played goalie for a handful of years, did you ever wear the Jason style mask? Or did you always play with the fiberglass helmet w/cage?

I wasn't aware of the shut-down defensive stylings of the mid-00s to present (excluding last year) Minnesota Wild, the pre-Tippett Phoenix Coyotes (Francis had 1 good year as coach), and Giguere (he did it twice, once before those 2 were on the team, sparky). Guess my memory's getting hazy over here.

If you want to bet that Mason can do it, based on the fact that four non-HHOF candidates did it over a span of 45 years, that's certainly your prerogative.

Dude, Tim Thomas has had years to try to be an NHL starter, it will never happen. Get rid of him.

I truly wish I could.

I mean, I'm thoroughly enjoying his season so far, but...

Actually, given the overabundance of logic on this board recently, I'm thinking of relocating to your municipality. Do you have any vacant, decrepit foreclosures for sale/lease?
- jmatchett383

We have only condos and second story retail rentals. Everything else is open space for rock throwing.

I never said he can. I'mjust saying that, if I'm an NHL GM, I'm hoping that he can, as opposed to hoping he regresses to save money. But I guess that's what the Flyers should be hoping for, as opposed to showing faith in him moving forward. Yeah, let's piss him off by giving him a low ball 1-year deal and then hope he loved it so much he'll stay with us past this year.

Any chance you could zone some of those rock throwing areas for low-income housing? All I need is about 50 sq. feet of sturdy cardboard or MDF and a few stainless steel piss buckets.

Well, I hope (would actually like) him to continue to perform at a good (top-12 goalie) range and sign for pennies on the dollar, but I'd personally prefer to get him signed to a market value, 3/4 year deal so that he doesn't walk after next year. We're just gonna disagree, because I'm getting sick and tired of arguing over something that I have no control over.

Now MOAT, about this rock-throwing space. Does it have intermittent electric?

i started playing hockey in 1980, and didn't get on the ice as a goalie until 84 i think...fibreglass masks were a thing of the past. the only kind readily available at that time was a helmet and cage. i didn't move to the combo style mask until around 1995 or so.

i have a lindbergh replica mask, which i actually wore twice about 10 years ago. crazy. wouldn't do it again. i wish they found a way to have those masks with the same visibility and safety as the new masks...the old school masks are (frank)ing great. added so much flavor to the game.

Based on that logic, GMs should never sign players to more than a one year contract because every promising player will end up being a bust

Only way they could do the old style masks with the same visibility would be to open up, the eyelets, which has puck-to-eye blindness written all over it.
