But why would you want to help that team? The Leafs could wind up facing that team.
- Feeling Glucky?

hypothetical situation......

Top contending team with Stanley cup aspirations for this year.... Lose their goalie for the remainder of the year.

Their window is closing, so they will likely overpay for someone like Reimer. Top notch prospect, along with a first rounder would not be out of the question.

Asset management.

Those are very rare. Maybe Washington or Detroit? Most playoff caliber teams have their #1 guy.

If one was moved I see Reimer/Bernier as a better fit for a young team looking to add a #1 guy.

- The Law

I would think its more likely that if either are traded its to a team like Edmonton, who doesn't have a clear goaltending situation - and by February or March of 2014 Bryz will have been mesmerized by the northern lights and lost his focus again.

Depending on situations with other teams. Best time to move Reimer may be during the season. A contender may have a dire need for a proven goalie and overpay.
- faceto27

who plays backup in toronto if riemer is moved. are there enough goalies in the system to ease his trade to another team? otherwise move him at the draft.

I can see Reimer taking a bit of a pay cut if him and Bernier continue this. They both seem to enjoy with the way things are going, and both help each other out.

Question is, do you do this if we make the playoffs? Or do you stick to one goalie (the better one at the time obviously).

- peddy-93

No, you gotta give one guy the net in the playoffs. That's why one of these guys will have to be moved eventually.

Unfortunately in this era of cap management, no team can afford to have anything more than a Top goalie as your number one and a german sheppard as your backup
- faceto27

look at nashville with Rinne out. without a decent backup they've fallen behind in the standings.

Ottawa is actually playing Karlsson more than 30 minutes in games.. he simply can't sustain any level of play with those kind of minutes... and frankly he's not great in his own zone.

It will be interesting to see how Murray tries to get himself out of this situation.... 'cause unlike the acquisition of Bobby Ryan, he(Murray) doesn't have the other GMs necessarily over a barrel.... perhaps a deal with Philly where by he gets someone like Schenn .. perhaps for Zibanejad.... clearly looks like Schenn is in the dog house in Philly.

- BorjeFan4Ever

Rumor is that they need a guy that can carry the puck out of the zone. If true - Schenn is not the droid they are looking for.

RFA - i bet reimer resigns

hopefully we can roll with 2 great goalies for a few years.

pay em both like 3 mil and play the hot goalie...

both goalies stay fit, healthy, and hungry for playing time/wins.

- big_dion

if he does resign I hope it's 2.5 mil per on 2 yr contract.

If it's to a team like Edmonton I think that happens in the offseason.

How many wins would Edmonton have this year with a decent tender?

What were talking about is a contender who has a number one goalie who just ripped his knee apart in February and is gone for the rest of the year.
- faceto27

Unless that guy is done forever - he'll be back in the net the next year and on their Cap payroll. They're more likely to fill the gap with an expiring contract like Elliott or Brodeur or Miller or some other veteran.

I know what you mean, and kind of agree, but I was more thinking who can Murray target to shore up his defense... and Schenn clearly has skating issues but he wasn't that bad in Toronto for part of the time.
- BorjeFan4Ever

I fear Ranger now more than Schenn then. But we were also 13th in the conference and it didn't make a difference.

if you can sell reimer for a good return i say you do it and bring up a backup.

IMO bernier has shown he is capable of the starter role, and his rebound control is outstanding...i have full faith in him.

Thinking more about a serious injury to a number #1 around the deadline. As mentioned though that team likely seeks out a rent a veteran not Reimer.. Maybe off season is best. No risk during the playoffs and still get good value back on an RFA.
- D.Lemieux

Agreed. Something could happen but more likely it plays out how you've described.

Okay fine......... we trade Reimer to the Oilers for their first round pick next year. The Oilers will continue to suck, because they are the Oilers and we end up with the first overall pick.

With the first overall pick, the Toronto Maple Leafs are pleased to draft Connor McDavid.

BOOM!

McGrattin pooped his pants and pushed Mclaren over.
