Thinking about Reimer.. he is an RFA at the end of the year. If his numbers hold up Leafs are going to have a Bernier situation on their hands. Reimer won't want to resign here to share the net or be pushed to a back-up.

Do you think Nonis holds him all year and into the playoffs then trades him in the offseason.
Or
Do you think they get more trading him during the year to a team with goalie issues?

or... I'm wrong you resign him again and run with these 2 goalies as long as you can.

As someone who wasn't sold on the trade at the time... I think we might be getting to the point where he's more important than Kessel.

I wasn't either. Glad to be proven wrong.

I have actually been surprised at the patience and composer both have shown at times with the puck. Actually taking a second to find the open lane / player in the neutral zone, and making a good pass to push the puck forward. Plus Orr can lay a few players out once and awhile. Probably one of the only players on the Leafs that can occasionally take guys like Chara down with a hit.

That was his whole role in the boston series, and he did it well.

Felt that T.Smith should have gotten a star in last nights game. Shame.

I don't know, tough situation.

I would want to trade Reimer to get full value or even cause a team to over price if they're desperate for a goalie.

I didn't know much about JVR when the trade went down. What I did know was that Schenn sucked. He is a bottom pairing defenseman and nothing more.

Resign him. End of the day, this team lives and dies by it's goaltending, and so far, we don't have a clear-cut #1. I'm still leaning towards Reimer.

Good question - I think the year runs its course and they make a decision in June. If Reimer is your guy in the playoffs then he's re-signed and Bernier is moved. If Bernier's your guy in the playoffs then he's your guy and Reimer is moved.

Do not trade him this season. That's my vote.

Well he was a #2 overall pick, potential was always there. Just never came out consistently in Philly.

I was worried JVR was slow, soft and injury prone. Like you though, I didn't know a whole lot about him.

Depending on situations with other teams. Best time to move Reimer may be during the season. A contender may have a dire need for a proven goalie and overpay.

In a way, going by the stats this year and last, we have two #1's, no?

The only reason we're rotating goalies is because neither has played bad enough to sit for any length of time and not because they don't deserve to keep playing. A good problem to have, the way I see it. One thing is for sure...it would suck to lose one of the two, and end up with an injury to the guy we kept. Season over, in that case..

Teams tell me Senators GM Bryan Murray has been working the phones. Club needs help on defence. Inconsistency has gone on for a month

Problem is, guys like Miller, Anderson, Elliott, Brodeur etc might all be available. And if the goalie we kept gets hurt, we're (frank)ed.

Unfortunately in this era of cap management, no team can afford to have anything more than a Top goalie as your number one and a german sheppard as your backup

If Bernier goes on a run and really takes the net then sure. But if things are still the same as they are today I'd wait until the summer - unless they get a deal that they can't refuse. Typically the deadline is about contenders adding veterans on expiring contracts for picks and prospects. Moving a young goalie seems like more of a summer move. But if the phone rings and the deal is good ...

Yes you're right......... I do believe there is going to be ample supply of veteran proven goalies available during the year

RFA - i bet reimer resigns

hopefully we can roll with 2 great goalies for a few years.

pay em both like 3 mil and play the hot goalie...

both goalies stay fit, healthy, and hungry for playing time/wins.

I know Reimer has been great. His rebound contol is way better this year. I just see Bernier as better over the long haul. He is just so positionally sound.

If I had to guess the most value you would get is from a playoff team who has goalie issues right at the dead line.

Leafs luck though you trade Reimer and Bernier goes down the next game.

Both have played very well. Reimer has made pretty big improvements with rebound control and his glove hand. Bernier sill has the edge in those aspects of the game plus his puck handling is way better.

The one area I really like Reimer is his battle, and that he never gives up on a play, even late in the 3rd after being peppered with 35-40 + shots. It was mentioned in one of the games last week, that most of Bernier's goals against have come in later in the 3rd, when he might be getting tired and more sloppy.
