Meh they only played 6.5 mins. Top line was needed for only 16. We ground out the win again. I don't mind the two of them that much the only time the islanders got goonish was at 19:59 of the 3rd.

So be it. Will have to defend themselves. Like I said, Orr and McLaren have brought only a shadow of the toughness they provided us last year. Until they get back on that track, we really don't need to be playing them both every night. Against tougher teams, sure, but not every game. Especially when we just brought Clarkson in to provide some toughness too.

the "arms" race in the Atlantic hasn't exactly brought much this year. Parros is an after-thought in Montreal.

They only played him like 12 minutes last night and that was with Kadri out. Can't see him playing with Kessel and JVR with Kadri back.
- systemtool

He's only playing even strength so his minutes are low. Even if they don't put Kadri between them at ES, they'll have him with Kessel and JVR on the PP.

Holland has looked ok inbetween those two.
For the first game back, I would put Kadri on the second line.

- Fakepartofme

2nd line got 19 minutes last night 1st line got 16. I am all for lupul Kadri clarkson for 1/3 of the game.

I dont understand why he wouldnt play him on the PP too, but whatever, it worked and they won!

Good point about Kadri with them on the PP, makes sense.

Maybe you were right about last night though the islanders are near the bottom of the league in major penalties.

We are top in majors and total penalty minutes.

Its fun to be a Leaf fan again.

We had some pretty horrible years, and its nice to talk about how the Leafs can make tinker here and there in order to become a legitimate Stanley cup contender.

I think you've gotta earn your way onto special teams... and at the very least have more than 2 practices under your belt before getting in.

But it's amazing the difference in this team when they have JVR on the wing instead of center.

JVR has quickly become one of the premier power forwards in the league.

Thank you Schenn... clap.... clap...... clap clap clap

Heading toward next week’s US Thanksgiving, Darren Dreger claims Philadelphia Flyers center Brayden Schenn and New York Rangers defenseman Michael Del Zotto have surfaced in the rumor mill. Dreger claims the Flyers aren’t trying to push out Schenn (they’d prefer to move Luke Schenn) but could consider moving him for the right deal, while five or six teams have inquired about Del Zotto. Pierre LeBrun believes the Ottawa Senators are among those teams, as one of their priorities is landing a puck-moving defenseman. LeBrun also noted the Calgary Flames have “massive cap space” (sitting 27th in payroll this season) which could attract the interest of some cap-strung contenders.

As someone who wasn't sold on the trade at the time... I think we might be getting to the point where he's more important than Kessel.

That trade will go down as one of the biggest steals in NHL history.

I giggle like a little school girl when I think we got him for Luke (frank)en piece of poop Schenn

Easy there he has a lot of freedom because of Kessel. But at his cap hit and term

I think that the 4th line has been pretty darn good this whole season, with both Orr and McLaren. They have actually managed to apply a decent forecheck, have been responsible in the neutral zone, and have been pretty darn good at getting the puck out of their own end. Several times either Orr or McLaren have even had decent drives to the net, with pretty good scoring chances. I think they have brought their game (especially Orr) to a higher level.

agreed- they haven't just been fighters this year... Carlyle can actually trust them to play hockey at a decent level.

I have actually been surprised at the patience and composer both have shown at times with the puck. Actually taking a second to find the open lane / player in the neutral zone, and making a good pass to push the puck forward. Plus Orr can lay a few players out once and awhile. Probably one of the only players on the Leafs that can occasionally take guys like Chara down with a hit.
