In terms of Puck handling, positioning, glove, five hole, penalty shots... Bernier is better. Reimer is a great goalie, don't get me wrong, but Bernier is better suited to be a number one.
- PotvinFan

I can't argue that Bernier looks better in net....but their is an intangible quality to Reimer that makes up for his awquardness. The guy just seems like he'd rather die then let a goal in.

Don't bring up Montreal ever on a leaf blog, apparently. It summons ungodly demons from other realms.

as is the glove hand. I love when Healy does his (frank)ing analysis on Reimers goals on glove hand last season.

Ok, fine... now do it on every other goalie in the league...

what's that? nearly identical results? you don't say... wonder why that could be. Couldn't possibly be that most shooters shoot high glove on all goalies cause it's where the room is, could it?

Moreover, every shooter in the league is hearing he has a bad glove, so he probably faces more glove hand shots than other goalies, so of course he is going to bobble more. Although i can't prove that with any fancy stats

If that were even remotely true, Carlyle would have gone with Reimer tonight after Saturday's win.

so, gonna have to call FALSE on ya.

EDIT: LEafs play every other day through next Wed, then back to back Fri-SAt.
I could see them alternating every game over that span.

Maybe Carlyle is playing the odds.
Wthout looking, maybe Bernier has better numbers against NYI

Ya he also doesn't ever seem to get bothered by things. The sun will come out tomorrow for James, every day. Bernier is calm and shark like in his movement, and his angles are 2LEGIT.

Yeah, I definitely agree that Bernier looks more calm, again i'm not saying that Bernier is bad, just that Reimer should get credit when it's due which he usually doesn't. They are both amazing goalies and are similar in skill. Just happens that Reimer is playing slightly better atm and isn't getting credit for it.

Healy is a putz. He is only employed by the CBC to be the sandpaper to Leaf fans. If they wanted someone creditable, he would have never been hired.

They are making it seem like he hasn't lost it. Maybe he hasn't, but its heavily in Bernier's position. him not playing tonight after a win and Bernier's successive losses proves that... I think.
- TrevLoyd

could also be they think they can beat the Isles without Vanek and want to get Bernier a win to keep his confidence up, so they can still have 2 hot goalies.

Leafs also only scored 1 goal in each of Bernier's 2 losses (and previous win). Not like it was in anyway his fault they lost. He played quite well in both games.

Seriously though, is it that big of a deal of a kid finds out there is no Santa? It's not like they still aren't getting gifts, which was the only use anyone ever had for him to begin with. poop, at least now you can eat the milk and cookies knowing some fat old guy isn't going to plow through them.
- systemtool

You're a bad parent if you make your kids believe that a fat old guy is going to plow through them.

And yes it's a bad thing. Kids need to dream as much as possible before it's too late.

I find it a little weary that there really only seems to be 2 main base camps. Over-hype with Bernier or underestimate Reimer. It's sad that there are very little who see both for how good they really are. And looking at the number and their play, they're pretty much dead even. Who you like more is completely subjective. Nobody can accurately say one is better than another at this point. They have different styles, but both get the job done. It's a good problem to have though, and I don't care who wins it ultimately. I just wish people would stop saying Bernier won already by a county mile

Yeah, never thought of that, that would be a smart move. Bernier played great, like i said i don't think you can blame him for the losses. Just that, if that was Reimer, you would be hearing crap like, "he played good but he's gotta find a way to steal that game if he wants to be the leafs starter". (This is media, specifically T.V. analysts) Just gets annoying.

Kids dreaming about Santa is kinda like adults dreaming about the Leafs winning the cup. Sure it's possible that they could win one, but it's the same premis. Maybe if we never believed in Santa when we were kids then we would never believe in anything.

This is what i'm trying to say, maybe I'm not conveying myself good enough. It just seems like the media and so called t.v. analyst experts underestimate Reimer. The thing is, he is just as good as Bernier, stop nitpicking everything Reimer does and praising Bernier for every little save. Their play this year has shown that they are equal goaltenders that deserve to start.

Fat guy plowing through people ? U must be talking about Ford. He's been knocking over camera people. Even yesterday in city council he charged the heckling public & knocked a female counciller, gave her a fat lip.

That, kick in goal was so garbage. Bernier had no chance. Do those stats include the Vancouver game?

I believe ( I'm true blue and not a tv guy ) that Bernier is the better goalie.

Sure he's had some gaffes, but so has every goalie on the planet.

Bernier helps our D way more, he wasn't drafted 11th overall for no reason

Just my opinion, I do like Reimer too, but if I had to pick right now.

Couldn't remember who was in net then. Wouldn't have mattered, they both could have been in net at the same time and still lost considering how bad the leafs played.
