He hit 20 goals or more once in his NHL career ( 30 goals in 2011-12) and got more than 40 points only once in that same season (46).

If I only consider full seasons (so no lockout or the ones where he got injured (which helps him) he has an average of 17 goals and 29.5 points.

That's what you have and are more likely to get.

It's far from impossible. 20 goals and 40 points would be considered good years for him. And he can contribute in other ways when he wants to.

But yeah.... the lenght and the amount of the contract may be a burden in a couple of years.

Well if the league continues to grow and the cap is up near 80 million in 2-3 years, by the time Clarkson's contract begins to suck, it won't hurt nearly as bad.
