You don't "make" a rivalry or "force" a rivalry. A rivalry grows. A rivalry simmers. A rivalry festers.

Right now the alleged Pittsburgh rivalry feels fake and forced. It's an NBC Sports creation. It's not a rivalry.

- Scoob

The two teams certainly seem to dislike one another...

Anyway, my answer to the rivalry question - and being old enough to remember the two cups - is rivalries come and go. The Flyers of the 70s are long gone. In fact the vast majority of the players currently playing on the Flyers weren't even alive in the 70's. And a few weren't even born in the 80s.

We had a nice "rivalry" with Toronto not all that long ago because we met and eliminated them from the post-season in back to back years. I hated Tucker, Domi, and that sneaky, slimy lookin' bastard Kasparitis.

IMO, the idea of a "rivalry" is over-sold, especially when players move (FA signings, trades) so often between teams.

2006-07 was actually fun here. The season sucked but puck talk was good.

Of course, it always gets quiet in here when they've had a successful road trip. Nothin to complain about so people go to other sites to vent their pent up anger.

That's what *I* do...

- Flyskippy

I t didn't really pick up until the calendar turned but yeah the 2007 trade and retooling talk in here was a good time because everything was on the table.

The Columbus Blue Jackets. Then, maybe, maybe, the Mighty Ducks before they become not so mighty and just became Ducks.
- hockeylover

I haven't even been to philly to see a game yet. Just toronto many times, Detroit even more and a few London, Ontario preseason games. I'm going to see the Flyers against the Jackets December 21st. I would kill a man to see the Flyers play the Penguins live!

I qualify.

The Rangers are their biggest rival, imho.

- Scoob

Just cant get on board with this... They may have been a rival longer, but I think the Blood Lust between not just the players, but the Fans is bigger then Eagles Cowboys... I literally think Crosby would be unsafe walking in Downtown Philly.

are you serious?

crosby came out and said he flatout doesnt like anyone on our team.

they've had coaches standing up on the benches screaming at each other.
they've had brawls in the playoffs.

pretty much every fan from every team on this website says the games between those two teams are the most entertaining games of the season.

- DJL

i kinda gotta side with this line if thought. say what you want about the Rangers rivalry, but i'm not sure how ANYONE can say the Pens - Flyers aren't a rivalry right now.

after that 2011-2013 season and playoffs? there's been nothing really like that for the Flyers in a bit, even the winter classic rangers season.

It's not my birthday

That Winter Classic season was a fun season though, wasn't it. I will admit in 2010, that shootout goal against Henrik Lundqvist was magical. Even if you hate the shoot out. It got us into the playoffs, we went far and it is still an amazing run...

Now I wanna hear from the shootout haters. That was pretty huge and I wouldn't change thing about that moment.

- Schenn2shine

It would have been spectacularly better if it had been an edge of your seat Overtime goal.

What's the big memory from that game? Boucher celebrating the stop in the shootout.

The goal was secondary. I can't even remember who scored it right at this minute.

I'm watching the replay of the pens ducks game earlier and Pierre lost it over Crosby blocking a puck with his skate - "who else in the world can do that!?"

I have a question for all Flyers fans but mostly for the fans old enough to remember the Flyers winning their last two cups. Who in the history all time is the Flyers greatest rival? I know the easy answer is the Penguins but the rivalry to me feels more recent. The hatred towards Crosby is the fuel to that never ending fire. Now, I ask this because I'm 31 today and I've been a Flyers fan since I was 14 or 15 years old and I'm NOT a local Philly Boy. When I became a fan Messier was a pro and I didn't feel the hate. Mario was a pro but again, I didn't feel the hate. Scott Stevens on the other hand had the Crosby hate, always. When I was growing up, he was a marked man for the Devils.

So I ask, who is the Flyers all time equal and greatest foe?

- Schenn2shine

This reminded me to go back and watch the NHL rivalry show on Pitt/Philly. Forgot I had it on my DVR, thanks!

I have a whole lot of hate to spread around, but for me it's still the Rangers that boil by blood the quickest. I just have too many memories of the Penguins being a non factor. They were often good at different times from each other

Don't get me wrong. I can't stand em. I'd love to see them all fall into a muddy puddle or attacked by bees, but they are not public enemy #1 for me.

In my world of hate, it goes -

Rangers
Devils (all that Marty guys doing)
Penguins
Isles

Welcome to the club, Canes, Caps and BJs. We'll see how you slot in. As of now the Caps are leading the other two clowns.

There's a definite rivalry between the Pens and the Flyers, but honestly the hatred does feel a bit manufactured.

The Flyers-Rangers back the 1970's & 80's....that was some hatred. The 1974 semi-final makes the Flyers-Pens first round a couple years back seem like a love fest

I dont know... I mean I hate the Rangers... but I have never wanted to give another human being a purple nurple as much as I do to Crosby.... and I think I might push James Neal in front of a Septa bus if I had the chance...

Expalins a lot...

The stars at night are big and bright
Deep in the heart of Texas
The prairie sky is wide and high
Deep in the heart of Texas

The sage in bloom is like perfume
Deep in the heart of Texas
Reminds me of the one that I love
Deep in the heart of Texas

The coyotes wail along the trail
Deep in the heart of Texas
The rabbits rush around the brush
Deep in the heart of Texas

The cowboys cry, "Ki yippee yi!"
Deep in the heart of Texas
The dogies bawl and bawl and bawl
Deep in the heart of Texas

The stars at night are big and bright
Deep in the heart of Texas
The prairie sky is wide and high
Deep in the heart of Texas
