I have a question for all Flyers fans but mostly for the fans old enough to remember the Flyers winning their last two cups. Who in the history all time is the Flyers greatest rival? I know the easy answer is the Penguins but the rivalry to me feels more recent. The hatred towards Crosby is the fuel to that never ending fire. Now, I ask this because I'm 31 today and I've been a Flyers fan since I was 14 or 15 years old and I'm NOT a local Philly Boy. When I became a fan Messier was a pro and I didn't feel the hate. Mario was a pro but again, I didn't feel the hate. Scott Stevens on the other hand had the Crosby hate, always. When I was growing up, he was a marked man for the Devils.

So I ask, who is the Flyers all time equal and greatest foe?

I wasn't around for the last cups, actually your age and watching just as long.... But it really depends on eras. Rivalries rise and fall based on strong teams...

That being said, even though there hasn't been a rival for long, I think the Penguins rivalry is the most intense out of any era.

He was moving in a whole other gear compared to the rest of them. That was a perfect video example of the game being slowed down all around you while you're blazing through it.

Russia tied the game on a nice 4-on-4 goal by Tkachyov, another 2014 draft-eligible player, at 6:06.

Blowing the kiss at the end was a nice touch. Those Romantic Russians.

The Columbus Blue Jackets. Then, maybe, maybe, the Mighty Ducks before they become not so mighty and just became Ducks.

All time I would have to say the Rangers, but it really depended on the era.
67-72 St. Louis
72-78 Boston
78-95 NY Rangers though Edmonton and Washington were in the mix for a short time
95-04 NJ Devils
05-present Penguins

While I certainly can't stand Crosby, I've never hated any team the way I hate the Rangers. Jay Snider said it best in the mid 80s "you want to beat any team to prove that you are superior, but you want to beat the Rangers just to shut them up!"

BTW I've been a diehard fan since the early 70s and attended my 1st live game in 1969, when I was still known as LittleE!

Tonights keys to victory

1. Come out fired up from the start! Ottawa certainly hasnt forgotten being embarrassed by the Flyers on home ice and they will likely be fired up tonight

2. Establish a hard forecheck and pressure the Sens down low. Ottawa's D doesnt handle pressure well, force them into turnovers

3. Stay disciplined. Don't take bad penalties, keep Ottawas pp off the ice. In other words initiate, don't retaliate!

Go Flyers!!

You are correct. It is most assuredly not the Penguins. People from Pittsburgh generally don't like Philadelphia and Philadelphians generally don't care about Pittsburgh.

Fact is, You'll get a different answer from different people of different ages.

I go back to the late 70's, early 80's with the Flyers, so if forced to pick, it'd be the Rangers, I guess.

The Pittsburgh "rivalry" is a more recent thing, because fact is, Philly kicked them around FOR YEARS before they were gifted Mario.

The Islanders? More of an early 80's thing.

The Devils? Yeah, I guess, in a way, but Philly kicked them around pretty good for the first few years, so fans of a certain age will always view the Devils as a "one off" franchise anyway, destined to move somewhere else eventually.

I always felt Caps - Flyers was an underrated matchup through the years and hated when they went to the Southeast division.

That leaves the Rangers. Ron Duguay. The Broadway Arrogance. If you want to accuse any team of consistently trying to buy championships, it's the Rangers over the years. Even when beating a down Rangers team, beating them just feels good.

I'm gonna say Rangers.

I never felt the Rangers/Flyers rivalry until the Winter Classic season. In the clearly 2000's those morons would bring together as many super stars as they could and still have a bad team.

You don't "make" a rivalry or "force" a rivalry. A rivalry grows. A rivalry simmers. A rivalry festers.

Right now the alleged Pittsburgh rivalry feels fake and forced. It's an NBC Sports creation. It's not a rivalry.

And I think they're having problems with puck moving from their Dmen. They've scratched Corvo and Weircoch for their play away from the puck, but they were two of Ottawa's capable puck movers. A hard forecheck could give Ottawa fits in this game.

are you serious?

crosby came out and said he flatout doesnt like anyone on our team.

they've had coaches standing up on the benches screaming at each other.
they've had brawls in the playoffs.

pretty much every fan from every team on this website says the games between those two teams are the most entertaining games of the season.

It's not my birthday

That Winter Classic season was a fun season though, wasn't it. I will admit in 2010, that shootout goal against Henrik Lundqvist was magical. Even if you hate the shoot out. It got us into the playoffs, we went far and it is still an amazing run...

Now I wanna hear from the shootout haters. That was pretty huge and I wouldn't change thing about that moment.

Yes. I'm totally serious. It's my opinion. Sorry it doesn't jive with yours.

I've been a fan since '72. The Rangers are still at the top of my all-time rivalry list for the Flyers.
