ohhhh hahaaha....

(0% chance garth (or any GM for that matter) is on the road with the team)

- LetsGoIsles

Yeah...it's pretty rare a GM travels to away games but it made the 'coincidence' a little more entertaining to think about....or scary.

I think there were about 2-3 games early on where Poulin gave up a couple of goals early, largely due to rust. Since then, he's been pretty damn solid. I expect him to continue to get better and better with experience just as any goaltender would. I see little to no reason to 'trade pieces' for a goaltender at this stage.
If we're talking about dealing away prospects or picks, I'd much rather it be for an impact dman but considering Poulin is presently sitting with a 2.52GAA and .909 sv pctg on a team this poor defensively, I'm more than willing to see if his continued play and experience can improve on those numbers.

Meanwhile, Nilsson will get a couple of games to get another taste of the NHL before returning to the Bridge, while other prospects can get a few starts in BPT. This is a win-win for the Isles from a developmental perspective.

- keaner17

Poulin's rebound control, body position and reflexes so far this year look light years better than Nabby. He's needed some games to get comfortable and looks to be getting there, and with him in net I'm a lot more relaxed than I am with Nabby in goal. He's made some very critical saves (and had some bad luck) but look at his numbers - for a 23 y/o goaltender playing behind our defense, he's got some phenomenal numbers. This isn't like him playing in St Louis or Anaheim, he's being tested every night from prime scoring positions because our team defense is disgustingly bad.

Improve the defense and his numbers also improve. There's no need to make a move for a starter when we have Poulin. Nilsson may not be a capable backup at the moment, (bad ahl season start, no idea how he'd play behind this defense) but Poulin is 23 - he should be fine to start every game for the next month without getting tired. Ride him and see what happens, we may find we already have the solution in goal on the roster.

There's about 3-4 of us loving that Poulin's getting to start without Nabby around now, and the rest keep looking at him and thinking we're doomed. I'm on the Poulin train, I think he's going to be a keeper.

we already have a shakey 38 y/o, we don't need to get older and more expensive in net.

Hate that idea.

Don't start a riot over it. We have $$$. Plus trading for players on the downward slope of their careers in Garth's specialty.

Guaranteed we don't. The Isles will be more than happy to give Nilsson a start or two in relief of their newly found #1.
- keaner17

at this point, may as well let the rooks see what they can do.
BOTTOM 5 pick looking more likely each day.

Nabby out covers all the excuses for team to slide....takes all the blame off Cappy. Figures.

I couldn't imagine dealing for another old goaltender unless Nabby was confirmed gone for the year. I also doubt Marty will go anywhere unless he's given a number one goalie schedule.

That said, how awesome would it be to have him here to mentor KP? I'd have a lot more interest in him as a coach than Dunham.

I think the road back may be a long one with that GAA.

I have my doubts that another goaltender would improve our fortunes that much. It's our God-awful defense that has our goalies looking like Dennis Lemieux

Yet as bad as we are, I'm willing to bet that if we get Vis back anytime soon along with Strait, the team will begin to imrove overall. The problem is we're not improved from last year on the blueline.

in that respect I kind of understand Garth not wanting to part with assets to pick up a defenseman, our farm system is absolutely loaded with them and he's not going to want to give up assets to bring in someone however given the state of it currently, we'd be so much better off with one legit top four defenseman added to the roster and waiving carkner or strait if necessary later. I understand he's preaching patience when it comes to developing the prospects and is building a team for long term success, but our NHL defensive depth is laughable when everyone is healthy. Take out 2 of them and it's pathetic.

With just one more legit top 4 defenseman who can skate and play defense I would guess we'd be 2-3 wins ahead of where we are right now, which is the difference in making the playoffs and not making them.

As the year goes on, that gap could get much wider. Smid would have been a big help to us.

i think most are happy with poulin...i certainly am as of right now...now whatever focus was on goalie should now TOTALLY focus on the defense.

no riot here, just no need for him. Is Marty currently good enough to win many more games with this defense than Poulin? Is he capable of playing for the next month without a break at a high level? Maybe. Is it worth giving the Devils an asset to take a chance on him? I don't think so. If we started talking about Miller or Hiller, or Halak, you'd have me interested. Not interested in Marty

Also am I the only who thinks Wang is putting the isles up at a Holiday Inn or something? I would think they would stay at some classy hotel the Checkers couldn't afford but then again he flew them coach to a preseason game last year in Calgary

so far the only trades you have to reference I can think of are:

Visnovsky for a 2nd rounder
Clutterbuck and a 3rd for Nino
Vanek for Moulson a 1st and a 2nd

Visnovsky has been quite good for us until his injury. Clutterbuck is 25. Vanek isn't quite 30.

you're making generalizations based on ufa signings of players like pandawful and reasoner. Not accurate. His trades have been more productive than his free agent signings.

I think Poulin has improved with every game he has played. I feel also sometimes that our Defensemen overdefending has lead to some unfortunate goals.

Just play solid in front of him and let him see the puck. I have been more impressed with his Rebound control and his glove has been light years better.

If he can work on reducing the Flip Flopping to minimum then he can be a great #1.
Lets see if Nilsson does well in his game. It mightbe like 15 games before Cappy get comfortable enough to play him though.

I know this is out of the blue, but I just want to say I'm real happy with Neilsen and glad to see him as the number 2 scorer. I know some one here don't like him or wanted him traded, but I've always liked him. It's great to see him have this success.

Well, we need to get smarter on defense, so perhaps staying at a Holiday Inn will help

You have to respect the guy for trying at least. I'd bet that most of us would say screw it and sit on that cash with the hot wife he's got and call it a day. We all know how it'll turn out but good for him for not giving up.

I agree keaner. I'd rather give up picks or prospects for D and not a goalie. Poulin will be even better with an improved D.
