Montreal really has done a nice job stocking their system. And not that Hockey's Future is the be all end all, but they have them only ranked 11th. Just goes to show how utterly barren the Flyers system is compared to other teams.

Most of thier future is on the team though... 12 players 26 or younger...

Not sure I completely agree. Basically Mesz is an expiring contract. Sure, it's not the NBA. But it is no different than us taking back Walker in the Gagne trade. Let's say that Florida keeps the 6 million I mentioned...they are saving roughly 11 million in salary over three years (21 million - 4 for mesz - 6 million eaten). For a team like Florida - that's not insignificant.

Your point was they'd have to eat at least half - so we're in the same ballpark.

And in exchange for taking on that contract...with all the risks associated with...you are not gonna have to pay a premium in picks/players going back. As you said...the market for Campbell is not that high.

They could just wait and try to unload 100% of Campbell's contract at the deadline (when teams have banked cap space) or during the summer or beyond when the artificial cap-limit gets lifted.... it doesn't make sense for them to narrow the market on themselves right now, retain more salary, and then have to turn around and replace Campbell's big minutes via UFA or another trade.

Yes, their NHL roster has a lot of strong young players, but check out what's in their pipeline. I'd kill to have their prospect pool. I would call them and offer to trade our entire prospect system for their entire system...and include every single Flyers pick in the next 3 drafts....and I'd bet they'd laugh and hang up the phone.

Fair points. Always risk of injury or drop in play though. I guess we'll see what happens over the next couple of months.

Personally, I wouldn't want the Flyers to do it - we really need to make a push for younger talent on the blueline and not take as much risk with older players.

He's spoiled; he's been there before.

He just likes it more now because he knows what's going on.
