Jerome Berube of hockeyprospect.com says he's struggled most of the season, to date.
- Jsaquella

its clear by watchign him that he's bored with the competition. the guy needs to be playing against pros. and i dont mean AHL pros

It looks like he hasn't done much in terms of offensive development.

Mantha has 24 goals in 23 games. Does Detroit ever miss?

- PhillySportsGuy

Shouldn't expect Morin to put up huge offensive numbers. I remember the talk of Mantha last year was his effort level & play within his own zone. Talk before the game was he's played like his is pissed off he fell in the draft.

I'd probably agree with it (especially since I don't tune in for all his games), but I have watched him play some good games. He's got a ways to go in my mind.

Yeah, I haven't seen much, so I just go by what you have reported and what I read from the guys who follow the CHL closely.

He should really only bother suiting up for Team Canada in the Olympics. All other competition is inferior.

even associating him with the word "junior" in any context is absurd at this point

I wish we had a time machine so we could go back and play him against Gretzky's Oilers. That way we'd see a fair matchup.

Sure they do, but they are very patient with their picks, so looking at the fact that 2007 1st rounder Brendan Smith has only played 48 NHL games can be misleading.

The amazing thing about Detroit is that the usually get more out of their late rounders (3rd round and later) than they do out of their first and seconds.

Yes he's been pretty good, now starting to see teams match up their top shutdown lines against him.

I know, but get cracking

Every defenseman will get burned from time to time...Brad May turned Raymond Bourque inside out on the famous "May Day" goal back in the day.

Yes & still is other teams are now trying to put out their best defensive player to keep him off the score board.

Must be strange for him because he was always the one matching up against top lines. The hunter has become the hunted.

The thing that has affected Detroit lately is the new rules about rights ownership of European prospects. Before, teams could draft Euros and own their rights for years an years.

The Red Wings are more patient than most teams to begin with, but they'd get guys like Datsyuk in the 6th round, and they'd play in Europe and get better, and when they were ready, Detroit would bring them over.

Their European scouting is top notch, and they have had more success than anyone when it comes to plucking Euros

He hasn't all year it's more recent, but it's a tough line to stop when Dal Colle is on his line the other winger often changes from shift to shift.
