Will come in handy vs. Max Talbot's face and the Colorado Avalanche. |

It is. But they Flyers don't have any prospect defensemen that project to be as good offensively as Byfuglien is right now. - Jsaquella
No, no, we should waste Giroux's best years waiting for him to get defensive help. Or we can trade him away and gnash teeth after the fact like with JVR... |

I bet Talbot used to catch Carle's shot with his teeth just for the fun of it. |

Too early to tell. All of them seem to be good skaters though. Ghost can really skate and shoot the puck. |

He'll never be beloved by the team's female fanbase like Pat Burrell. |

Okay. That's why (if I'm given the choice), I'd rather try to package him for a true, elite, young, 2-way defenseman. Problem is, there aren't many available. - jmatchett383
Yeah, there's zero available. The list of truly elite, young, two way defensemen is basically a name or three long. Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Drew Doughty and Alex Pietrangelo are about the entire list. |

Whenever I picture Byfuglien, I picture him eating a cheesesteak. I've never seen him eat a cheesesteak. I just imagine it. - PhillySportsGuy
Try cupcakes...
To me this is all in fun. Yes he's a good player or he wouldn't be still playing. And yes I think the Flyers have him on their radar (rightly). None of this will make fans stop making fun of him. |

Yes. But none of them project to being a player that can give you the combination of points and skating like Byfuglien can.
They also need a guy like that right now, which is kind of the point. |

He's the one I'm highest on. I know it's just college, but man he is fast, and can really crank his shot. I just hope he doesn't have Jack Johnson's issues. |

So, now PSG is a doctor who cares for someone diagnosed with dog poo?

He might not have been able to make the 1967 Leafs (I think they had to do 20 chin-ups or something). - jmatchett383
I saw something recently on the NHL Network from the Bruins training camp. Chara did 39 chin ups. And benched 250 pounds like 20 times.
For a dude that has arms as long as he does, that is amazing. |

Well, when it comes to elite (sorry, Buff is not, to me), I'll stretch it out to Weber, Keith, Seabrook, maybe even old man Chara. But that's about it. |

The funny thing is, Byfuglien isn;t even my first choice. I'd rather have a guy like Yandle, or Bouwmeester.
But I'm not about to simply dismiss a guy with his production and abilities out of hand because he's fat. |

And no-one has mentioned that even if he does begin to break down as your top defenseman you could always move him to wing and use him there... Less skating... |

As the team has floundered post-Pronger, I'm on board. I had my reservations, but discussions with Bradley put them to rest. That and Byfuglien's stubborn refusal to suck at hockey suddenly. |

I've never said Byfuglien is elite. He's an elite offensive producer, but not an elite all around defenseman. and when you factor in young, I don't go above age 24 or 25 at the oldest. |

I think Gostisbehere has that potential. But yes, that's 3-4 years down the line (for him to be able to do that). Kid is incredibly fast. |

Do you strictly measure players in terms of points? None of the prospects will likely give you the point output of Byfuglien, but they may have a few guys who are better all around defenseman than him. |
