So is a higher PPG average over the past 3 years than Jeff Carter & James van Riemsdyk.

I don't give a rat's ass if he dances after a big goal that ties a game late in the third.

Andre "Moose" Dupont used to dance after every goal. Brian Propp did that stupid Guffaw.

He's not ideal, at least not in every sense of the word...but he'd be a definite upgrade.

I'd prefer a talented hard working player, too. I'm not limiting my search to Byfuglien. But I wouldn't discount him, because he is talented and he's won a Stanley Cup.

The being a minus player over his career also doesn't mean a lot to me. For instance, I'd prefer Jay Bouwmeester to Byfuglin, and he's a career -49.

Want me to name others Byfuglien has a higher PPG average then? Corey Perry. Mike Richards. Vincent Lecavalier. Joe Pavelski. Ryan Getzlaff. Jaromir Jagr.

That is a lot of production from a defenseman.

No doubt. He's a hybrid, similar to Streit, at least when he played with Montreal. He's a bigger Letang for $2 million less per year for the next couple seasons. But what would it take to get him?

Byf, over that same 3 year period, has also taken more shots than Carter and a lot more than JVR.

Sure has. But points include assists, not just goals.

It'd probably take a lot, because a guy that produces points at that level is a major commodity.

Again, he's not my first choice. But he's definitely a guy I'd strongly consider.

We can agree there.

And I will concede there have been worse celebrations in the NHL...I just find myself a part of the old school in just about everything these days.

That happens with age

I think my top choices, at least of rumored or semi-realistic names, would be guys like Shattenkirk, Bouwmeester or Yandle.

EDIT: I would also have interest in that kid, too

Yeah, getting old is probably a lot like Byfuglien...it has it's pros and cons.

What 2 or 3 roster and/or prospect players would you trade for any of the above?

Read and Simmonds? Brayden and Luke? Couts, Mesz and Hagg?

I assume he got the escapes slide in the spotlight out of his system, so I'd probably be ok if we could get him for a reasonable transaction.

The problem with a Buff deal is, the Jets & Flyers aren't exactly great trade partners, unless the Flyers give up Brayden Schenn.

If I'm moving him, I better get more than Big Buf.

He's got a lot of growing up to do, but that kid can score goals. I think his issues are more due to Edmonton than the other way around.

I don;t have much faith in MacTavish. I think that bringing in Bryzgalov is the worst possible thing he could do in their situation.

And I'm a Bryzgalov fan.

I guess the real question is, do you make moves this year involving some of the younger players, or do you ride out the season, move the vets you can, and see where things are next year with players like Laughton, Cousins, Hagg, Morin, Gost, Lauridsen, Alt, etc.? That's in addition to the draft and free agency moves next summer.

If it's me, I assume we're not a real contender, let my youth continue to grow together, lock up Mason (not for 8 years though), and do my damn best to reload for next season.

I'd try to do both, to some extent...I really want them to add a mobile defenseman with good puck skills. If that costs a young player, I'm Ok with it, to a degree.

I agree they're not a "contender", but they still have enough talent to squeeze into the playoffs, and if they get a young enough defenseman, then it's gravy.

Edmonton is a nightmare. They aren't getting it done offensively with a bunch of highly talented young scorers, their defense isn't getting it done, and they moved Smid in a hightly questionable trade.

Yet that team has a boatload of potential, both in offensive firepower and as potential tradebait.

Maybe they're just waiting for McDavid.

Ghoulborne will likely be a NHL 4th liner, at best...like Rinaldo.

Gostisbehere has other NCAA coaches raving about him.

Was being a bit sarcastic. They get burned and deservedly so for bad drafting after the first round, but Ghost has a lot of people talking. Good to see. The type of player we could use.

On a side note, would love to get Larsen out
of Edmonton.

Agreed. Clearly the Flyers have tried to patch the 5-6 grouping with 4 defensemen, and so far it's working reasonably well, but that's likely because we're getting stellar goaltending. So yes, I'd prefer we made a Zhitnik for Coburn type trade, but I figure it's going to cost us a bit more this time to pull something like that off.

And unfortunately both St Louis and Phoenix are doing quite well at this point in the season, so they probably won't be sellers come the TDL. Who else does that leave as a potential trade partner?

Anyway, time to crash, catch you tomorrow, jsaq.

Really?

I have no problem with this celebration, considering the context. The Oilers obviously scored a game tying goal, and it was disallowed because Jon Quick female doged and moaned.

Then to have the team score with 12 seconds left at home--in front of crowd that threw pizza boxes on the ice? Seriously, change the color from blue to black and we wouldn't have this conversation.

It's a celebration.

Not to make a big deal out of it, but I would be.

I'm really anal about that poop. I don't like it any sport- like when Prince Fielder did that bowling pin bullpoop after a walkoff HR. I hate it. Celebrating is one thing- letting the emotion of scoring or hitting a HR etc go is cool. I've done it before. The OV smash into the glass is awesome.

But once it goes above a celebration and into showboating territory (i.e. spinning around the ice like a goddamn figure skater like Yak, throwing gloves into the air and "shooting" them, "shooting an arrow" at the goalie, etc) then it's when I get angry. Act like you've scored before and be a little bit humble. That's why we like guys like Chase Utley and Lappy; they go out there, play the game the right way, and don't put the spotlight on themselves per se. That's a professional.
