Stastny and Mitchell are expiring contracts so I'm guessing both would in a Vanek/Moulson situation where you give them a few months to see if they gel with the team. If they do, you sign them. If not, then you trade them for picks at the deadline. At some point, if Bergevin is serious about rebuilding through the draft, he'll have to trade some important players for picks. With Bouillon, Markov, Murray, Gionta and Diaz all up for contracts, this would seemingly be a good time for this strategy.
I would imagine the idea is that Colorado would want Markov in return and would accept Desharnais at a reduced rate in the hopes of getting him back on track?? So you'd then have to exchange Plekanec to go fill the hole on D with some other team. Mitchell would take over as third line center with Statsny and Eller as 1 and 2.
This is all my wild imagination at work over a silly little rumour, but Bergevin would certainly have his prints all of this team at that point and we'd instantly get bigger, less skilled and pooptier on the PP. - kev1586

So which one of Beaulieu or Tinordi are you giving up with your first for Stastny? |

It's not happening regardless, but you're right. It's far more likely that this is what Colorado would want. That being said, hard to imagine with the start that they've had this season that they wouldn't over-value Markov by a fair margin considering what he could add to their lineup/PP. |

But... but... but... Halak is better because he finds a way to win the games.
Seriously, I don't know if I should happy for Price or suicidal over the team's play. |

it is unreal how Michel Therrien has this team playing. they approach the game with absolutely no initiative on offence. 22 shots on home ice against the Rangers? |

According to Therrien, every other team got better this year, the Habs are the same as last year. Pathetic

they have been so completely awful that i'm not convinced Therrien is bulletproof through the season. i cannot for the life of me figure out why they abandoned their way of playing from last year in favour of this defence-first/pray for a goal or two approach. |

I like that he can say this without freaking out. When he arrived in Montreal, he is on camera on 24CH saying that to win requires 3 goals/30 shots. The fact that the team isn't even getting there(shots) when counting the amount of shots blocked by the opposition means that there's a problem with your team, not credit to be given to the opposition. |

that's bullpoop. they've completely abandoned the aggressive forecheck from last year. it's what allowed them to control the puck and create scoring chances in the amounts that they did. the style let them down when Price went in the poopter, but it was successful for the most part. |

I still think that all coaches hired by Montreal since Julien have lacked in one major area and that is capacity to adapt to in-game situations. If your guys don't have a second system at least slightly mastered to screw with what the other team does to counter your team, then you're basically a one trick pony and other teams and coaches will eventually figure out how to beat your teams. This equals short shelf-life. |
