Nah. Derm said to trade him.

NMC's don't concern his line of thinking.

- Cherry--Skoal

wasn't aware.... makes sense why he never comes up in media.... in that case he can afford to sit a game or two.

they gave up a guy who was unlikely to get a chance with the leafs this year.. let alone ever..... and a pick... for a 22 year old former first round centre. then a 7th for a tough guy in the minors.

I think (and most players and coaches) that winning draws is by committee. If your wingers are asleep at the wheel, your screwed. It's almost as lame as a corsi stat. Not too many draws are won outright anymore.
- LakesideBlues

The good faceoff men have a higher percentage always.

JVR and Kadris FW% are a product of the wingers? Nah.

While I agree the wingers do help. They do not manipulate if you are a good faceoff man or not.

Could not disagree with you more.

If being good at the draw was all about wingers. Than why do we make such a strong opinion of the guy taking them?

Actually it's better to hang onto your draft picks and try to develop players. But hey enjoy your very own Louis Leblanc.

Alas we need a C now, and we don't have any in our system that can step in yet...

Depends what you're getting return. I mean, you could hang onto your picks and draft a guy like Holland at 15th overall any time you want, right? Especially with picks in the 3rd and 7th round. Not making much sense there ST.

But I did find it cute how you said it's better to hang onto draft picks, yet turn around and mention how keeping your pick could result in a poop player like LeBlanc. We needed help now and the 3rd and 7th picks we gave up are as likely to pan out, less actually, than the young guy we got. Win for the team.

“@kevin_mcgran: I find this a curious trade. Methinks the Leafs owe ANA a favour down the line.”

Taking staubitz is a favor..... How can't they possibly need to give another favor?

I think he was just trying to get the point across that Holland may be a steal here.

I don't think it was to be taken literally.

Yeah, you can't develop anywhere passed 22.

I agree but we did give up a dman that was taken in the 2nd round and a conditional 3rd/2nd.

I really like holland and like the move. I think we paid a fair price

Plus we got a player in a position we lacked depth in, and gave up a player who was wayyy down the depth chart in another position.

I think it was a good deal too. I'm not expecting much from Holland though.

Pulled off the ice during the morning skate, Troy Bodie has been sent back to the Marlies. Leafs now at 23 players with Holland.

The chances of having an NHL career spanning more than 60 games is quite low being drafted outside the first round. I'm not pulling this out of my butt either

In all honesty Blacker has a better chance at developing with Anaheim than he did with Toronto. That said, this move developed on the heels of our obvious need for a natural centre.

What's interesting about the trade is Holland, similar to Blacker, achieved no more than basic 3-4th line minutes averaging about 7:45 min of ice time over his limited NHL experience. He is a "skilled' guy, I'm not sure how this will translate in Toronto now that he has an opportunity to play top line minutes with Kessel and JVR. I believe this will actually make a difference in play-by-play action comparatively from last night.

1st rounders aren't sure things either obviously. But the majority of them don't do anything substantial in the NHL

He's making $810 000 too, this deal could be a steal if he plays well.

They (wingers & defencemen) certainly do manipulate the draw. How many times do centre's get kicked out of the draw because the winger is cheating ? Often.
And why do wingers cheat ?
I guess you disagree with me, most players, and probably every coach in the league. That's your prerogative.

Excellent pickup for Holland. I wanted him on the Oilers. Would've paid more than what you guys did to get him. (frank) Mac T!
