Nailed it. The reason why Flyers fans hate it so much is because the team absolutely sucks at it.

Granted it's not an ideal way to decide a game, but while it's in the rules might as well start winning some of them. 24-44 in shootouts is a colossal embarrassment.

- PLindbergh31

I think they're bad at it because they follow the trends. When teams first found success making moves the flyers would skate in and shoot, no move. Then by the time they caught on, teams were now shooting.

Instead of leading the way, the Flyers continue to chase the successful methods of the previous year.

Boston wins cup, we decide to make our team bigger and slower. We always chase the trends.

You would think with all the goals he's scored in his career, VL should be ok at this.
- BiggE

Lots of great goal scorers are bad at shootouts. Stamkos is 6/28 in his career, which is slightly worse than Vinny's 12/50.

Wow, Adam Hall is 3/10. Maybe he should gone fifth last night instead of Kimmo.

Everyone remember this shootout?

(How do you most a video directly?)

it's funny watching this again...even though I knew how it ended, I still couldn't help but feel the Flyers were going to loose this shootout.

edit: also reminded how much offensive potential that team had…Richards, Carter, Giroux, JvR, Briere, Gagne

I always find this funny, and by funny I mean infinitely depressing. Because of the Jets moving from Atlanta to Winnipeg, the Flyers are actually ranked 31st all-time in shootout SV%.

I don't know if Rinaldo was on the ice during the pk goals. But when I focused on him, he's is not doing anything out there. He's not long, quick, or instinctual. I'd think downie or voracek would be better options. I know their trying to experiment with him in this role but he is terrible. B/w him, hall, giroux that's some poor skating on the pk.

I'd sit through it if all the sheeple didn't automatically stand so I can't see around them. So not THAT exciting.

It IS part of the game now. And we seem to have a keeper who can be sure we aren't out of it after the second shot. Maybe Berube will turn his back on the Lava system of never practicing it. I can see an occasional practice fun of a shootout competition with some kind of reward for the guys who score. the opposite of a Kangaroo court.

- bodiva88

I believe a lot of teams end practice with the skaters taking turns going 1-on-1 vs the goalie until they get one... last guy left has to pick up the all the sticks/gloves/pucks, etc.

Dunno if the Flyers have started doing that, or not.

At this point I'd let Paddock and Berube shoot and have Guroux go 3rd

if mason misses emery just fights the goalie while giroux taps it in

No offense or anything, but we all know we wouldnt be on about the shootouts as much, if the Flyers werent a sack of poop at winning them...

It is a stupid way to decide a game, but its even more stupid that this team barely ever wins one.

Going into that game I didn't expect a win let alone a point. So good job boys! Keep it up!
I think fatigue played a huge role in that lead slipping away. No big deal they look to be on the right track to getting this season turned around... Anytime you have good goaltending you have a shot at winning or should win, especially eith how good emery and mason have been.

Nhl14 is pretty annoying for a game.. if u get near boards they grab u and pull u in.. if they dp the puck in it bounces in the air for 20 seconds and they come get it while u stand there waiting for it to land...

Game gets worse each year.. so annoying

ill also admit i probably wouldnt find it as exciting if the roles were reversed as well. but i dont know. even if im catching like a random game on NBCSN, its still awfully hard to change the channel on a shootout

i feel like voracek should be decent at them. you already have giroux. one or two other guys and you should be no worse than most teams.

We had Briere, Giroux and Gagne last year.

We had Briere, Giroux and Jagr in '11-12.

We had Briere, Giroux, Carter, Richards, Zherdev, Versteeg, Leino in '10-11.

We still sucked.
