Wasn't it Burke that traded him for Lee Stempinak? I agree with you though one player we should have kept I always liked Steen and still do. i'm glad he is having success in St. Louis. His only issue is staying healthy don't believe hes played a full season with St. Louis yet. Hopefully he can this year because i think hes going to have an outstanding season.

No Fletcher was the interim GM at the time. Leafs fired JFJ. Leafs stated they were searching for a full time GM but it was a ruse. They really wanted Burke but he wa still under contract with the Ducks. So the Leafs had to wait for Burke to resign. Fletcher made the lousy trade. Trading two former 1st rounders in Steen & Carlos for a ham & egger in Stempniak. Leafs gave up tooooo much. Wasn't a big Carlos fan, no problem trading him, but I wouldn't have traded Steen. A Carlos for Stempniak would have have been even. But the Leafs got fleeced adding in Steen.
