Mckeeg was good in the OHL, I hope he ends up finding a groove, and makes it up to the NHL because there is some skill in that kid for sure.
But ATM, I have a hard time agreeing that he deserves a call up.

Teared the OHL apart yet "no" he is not an offensive threat, once he finds his groove or for example if he played with lupul and clarkson which are two good talents, could start creating many things since he is a good play making center. I dislike when people go off about these old dudes doing amazing in the AHL. Sure they are doing amazing but they do poop all when they are brought up usually by the leafs. They get more minutes in the AHL for God knows why over the prospects but yeah great developments neverless(sarcastic)

He is a 3rd liner in the AHL because guys like smith take his minutes... we have prospects for a reason, so if we dont utilize our prospects, whats the point of having him... we gave leivo a chance and he did an okay job, why not mckegg? Mckegg has more skill than smith in my opinion .. leivo is not dominating the AHL does that mean he is poop? no. So its not a big deal to give your prospects a chance once in a while when they are your potential future and smith is out the door by the summer

Have you seen any marlies games? Leivo is more noticeable than Mckegg..kid got an NHL shot..in my opinion he is outplaying Mckegg as a rookie.
guys like smith take his minutes because we would be one of the worst teams in the league if we just rolled with mckegg, leivo, carrick getting top minutes and started sparks a lot more. Every team has a few vets that help the team win.
I just don't think Mckegg has earned in yet, if he puts up a point per game over the next 8 or 9 games, give him a shot

It's a problem with our entire system.

As long as I've been a Leaf fan, I can not recall a single player that we just let develop on a natural timeline, in situations to succeed, with heavy minutes in the AHL.

The marlies don't mean anything to me besides in my view, a further development on our prospects. Guys like smith tear it up in the AHL then do nothing at an NHL level. That is why they are in the AHL and older and are there to remain. So many older guys enter the NHL with hyped stats then do nothing. Mckegg is all potential with talent and a youngster. Dude its the same crap every year with the leafs, majority of these old guys do nothing special for us who come in from the marlies who are having a good stint, haven't you recognized this by now? I find it being a common trend within Toronto recalling these older players from the marlies. Only guy i liked that they brought in was smithson because of his faceoff skills and defensive skill set.

we seem to be more patient with our D (Rielly and Schenn the exceptions) but we are usually thin at forward and need the young guys to step up
