The owners know they have to be. Remember what happened during their cup drought? I think they may have been the only original 6 team in danger of moving because they had no fans showing up to games in the mid 90s

Rocky is the bomb. He waited 20 years to take over and when he did he had a plan, which he's executed top to bottom (starting with "fire your brother"). The rare team without corporate ownership and with a single strong owner who hires the right people and gets out of the way.

Okay i've decided, and i'm telepathically telling Slats to trade for Tom Gilbert. He can eat up minutes and would be great on the 3rd pair with Moore. Florida is horrible again and i'm pretty sure he can be had for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. His cap hit is only 900k and we could fit him in easily!

Just throwing this out there, would you trade Del Zotto for Fleischman and Gilbert?

Get out of my head. I considered that type of trade but including Pouliot to even out cap hits more. I'd think about it. The thing with Gilbert is he was available to anyone this summer and had to earn a job in camp with Florida. I'd still give it some thought.

And if you look at our D this summer, we figured we'd be set. Plans change and thats why people look at others (kids aren't ready, vets play like crap etc). I think he'd be a great fit and I would definitely do the deal listed

I would feel more comfortable doing it if the intend was to re-sign Fleischman after his current two years are up. If I was comfortable with him signing and extension with the Rangers after next year and, therefore, being a Rangers asset for the next several years, I may do it. Not entirely sold, however.

My point on Gilbert was that there must have been a lot of doubt among all 30 NHL teams since he had to earn his job on a camp tryout. That doesn't mean he isn't or can't be a solid player for us; I'm just saying that should be a red flag. I agree with you that I would seriously consider it.

If that happened I think I'd get pissed, flip out, and leave hockey buzz for 48 hrs. Not that anyone has ever done that before
