Why not wait until he's a free agent and offer him the contract thats good for the team? Low risk possible high reward. - DONMURDOCH14
given his injury history now, any team would be crazy to offer him anything long-term with gobs of dough... |

I know you against Gaborik from a salary stand point but let's forget that for a minute. Just on pure scheme and fit and giving up assets stand point, would you welcome getting him back? - mrhattrick27
it's not even so much that I am against Gaborik from a salary stand point, it's that I just don't even remotely see how it's possible to get his cap hit in here
I would be curious to see how he would be in Vigneault's system, sure.
But this team is capped out, it isn't a matter of gettin rid of Pyatt, Pouliot all the other guy's everybody hates.
Getting Columbus to take half the 7.5 million cap hit is going to have to be a trade that really makes it worth it for the BJ's.
I still think they are going to wait to see how their team looks with Nathan Horton added to the mix before they start dealing people off |

Also, if we just don't take into consideration the return that we got from Gaborik last year, what we be willing to give up for the player currently, even of Columbus would be willing to keep a significant portion of his hit?
As we sit here today, I'm not willing to give up much for an impending free agent, who we would be unlikely to re-sign. Maybe a good prospect like Lindberg and a second (just as an example)
So, looking at if from Columbus' perspective, they would have egg on their face if the traded Gaborik back to the Rangers for a less than package, which would effectively mean they traded Brassard, Moore and Dorsett for the current Rangers discount package. |

I don't think there a chance in hell Gaborik is going to be traded by the BJ's to the Rangers.
Columbus views the Rangers as one of the teams they are fighting for the playoffs with. Why are they going to do us any favors.
If they trade Gaborik, I imagine it will be out west |

I forget the saying but sometimes you need to realize a bad investment and cash out while you can before you get nothing. They got Gaborik for the playoff push last year and this year. Well they aren't doing so hot so if they are out of it and want to get some assets back they will have to take less.
I also don't get the notion of why ir's crazy for them to eat half his salary, for hald the year. If eating $1.7M (assuming he is dealt at the half way point) makes him easier to deal why wouldn't they do it? If I'm a struggling team and I need to eat 50% contracts for impending FAs I do it all day. Who cares. I want to gain assets. |

because owners want to make money and paying a player $1.7 million to not play on your team is a big expense for a guy that owns a team like the CBJs. |

the BJ's aren't in the same boat as Florida who are a complete disaster.
They'll be in it until the end of the season, they have no reason to start dumping players and taking money back at this point

Three teams that are already out of the playoff race: Edmonton, Florida and Buffalo.
The rest, including Columbus, will likely not dump until late in the season.
Edit: The rest of the league's non-playoff clubs will likely not salary dump until later in the season. |

#NYR Nash is skating with Michael Del Zotto as fourth defensive pair. Justin Falk with John Moore, so possible DZ will be scratched in MTL |

hey, I always thought he was trade bait, mainly because he isn't going to improve as a left handed shot forced to play the right side

I always thought we needed to keep him. If he played like he was capable he brings something the other Dman can't. |

I just don't believe he can succeed on the right side, and as long as McDonagh, Staal and Moore are playing the left, he is continue to look completely out of wack like he has looked all year long.

I don't get why he isn't allowed to play the Left side and Moore try the right. |

The problem is he didn't show much on the left recently. It's not like he was some stud on the left and then bam he started sucking on the right. Putting him on the right i feel was their attempt at salvaging his career here. Truth be told he's not just trade fodder once McI is ready and if not, they'll make a trade for a cheap righty vet... I see Salo coming here if TB's season just goes down hill or Ron Hainsey |

He certainly looks like the odd man out, and the fact that he has had little success playing the right side, makes him vulnerable to a trade. He either is garnering little interest, or the organization is not comfortable with who would replace him should they obtain a forward for him. |

Maybe they want to give it a couple of games with MDZ as a healthy scratch to see how they look with another defensemen playing in the top 6, to really assess whether they can afford to trade him. |

Over the course of the last couple of years, he has been mentioned in almost every trade rumor involving the Rangers, partly because other teams (at least in the past) valued him a great deal. Maybe his trade value is down a little now, but I would also imagine that the Rangers, as you said, may feel a little uncomfortable with who his replacement would be.
I don't know what MDZ could command in a straight up trade, if he is not a part of larger package for a bigger ticket guy. |

I would imagine 2 trades. Deal MDZ and a pick for a Forward and Then a pick and low level prospect for a D replacement. |

Also have to think about cap considerations. MDZ makes 2.5 so not sure how much of a forward that they would be able to acquire. |
