Todd Cordell: New Jersey Devils Notes: Elias, Brunner, Schneider, Gionta & More
- Todd.Cordell

Josefson never contributes and rarely stands out. He provides zero offense, he has no size, and even his defensive play is average at best. I don't see any value in him at this point.

Oilers need a stud denfesman, is there any one more STUD than Peter Harrold? Harrold and Volchenkov for Eberle.

I would include Greene in a trade that has Eberle coming our way. I mean like you said we have Harrold now.

lol has anyone noticed how easy it is to make trades in NHL 14? Yesterday I was just fooling around and did Matteau, Fayne, and Teddy for Eberle. JJ and Jags for Sutter out of Pitt. If only...

Meh. The gameplay isn't much different from 13, but I do like that the new uniforms and rosters are updated. Its nothing groundbreaking though.

Clarky'll at least give 110% each night though! Admittedly he doesnt have the most talent, but he's a guy you'd want on your team come the playoffs just because of his intensity.

Ha, I'm not sold on him either but he at least has speed and some decent hands around the net. I don't think either of the two will be the top-tier talent the Devils thought they were getting when they drafted him, but at the very least you can see some improvement with Teddy, however small. There are some night where I don't even know Josefson is out there...and he always gets hurt.

A guy that could realistically be acquired is Gaborik. Columbus is upset that's he's not producing right now and they probably won't resign him, so I think he could fit in nicely in our top 6. I feel if he were to be put with either Elias or Henrique he could contribute.
He has 6 goals and 11 points in 16 games.

Maybe a D-Man (Volch/Sal) and a forward (Lokti/JJ) for Gaborik.

It would only be this year if he were to resign for maybe less next year. And it would help us get rid of one of those D-men.

Aging, underperforming rental? No thanks. Even though we're on a hot streak, we definitely do not have the talent (especially on defense) to be a contender this year. There is no way we should be buyer this deadline.

Aging sure. Underperforming? 11 points in 16 games including 5 goals. He would be tied with Jagr, Ryder, Elias, and Henrique with the most goals and would be second in points to Jagr. If it freed us up of Volch's contract of 4.2 for the next two years after this year would be great. Plus, it would open a spot on the defense for one of the young guys to stay like Gelinas, because when all are healthy he'll have nine defensemen. Greene, Sal, Volch, Zid, Gelly, Merrill, Larsson, Fayne, and Harrold. Unless he could get someone like Evander Kane, I think to get Eberlie would be too much.

In Lou's mind we're always buying at the deadline. Look at last year for example got Sullivan instead of getting something for Clarkson and/or other players in a deep draft.

As top six guys, the only ones I see realistically we could get is Gaborik and maybe Kane. I highly doubt Edmonton would trade Eberlie. Plus, it could possibly allow us to get rid of a bad contract like Volch's.

His team thinks he's underperforming. Do you really think he would have 11 points in 16 games here? We would need him to play in a system that doesn't really fit his skill set.

Edmonton will have to do something eventually if they keep losing every season.

Exactly. Gaborik would just be a more expensive, more frequently injured, and just as streaky brunner.

Yeah, but to get Eberlie I think Schneider would probably be involved, to me it would make no sense from an Edmonton stand point to trade maybe one of their best players and not fill one of their needs and defensively, I'd rather keep Merrill, Gelly, Larsson, and maybe Severson for now. Something like Greene and Schneider +.

Has Clarkie been playing like poop or are you surprised by his lack of offensive production?
