Agreed, but I also like JJ. I'll admit, he's whiny at times, but I find him inoffensive. The radio crew is much better though, imo.

Watching the replay of the Emery's save on Crosby. Giroux and Grossman are chasing him down with another Pen nearby. Giroux skates away from that Pen in order to do his patented stick push to Grossman's ass. Giroux skates AWAY from that Pen to do this and that Pen is left wide open in front of Emery if there was a rebound opportunity instead of Giroux marking him.

I'm tired of BS like this from our Captain

OH MY GOD HE DIDN'T SKATE HARD ONE TIME LAST GAME TRADE HIM!

You need to let it go, man. Most people agree his defensive game has been improved this season overall. You make him out to be Zherdev defensively.

I never know whose they are, but there are announcers that really scream when their team scores a goal, and it's terrible. Like, it sounds like a youtube video of somebody's 30 year old basement dweller losing their poop over World of Warcraft or an eBay auction or something.

If anybody knows which announcers I'm thinking of, please call them stupid for me.

Relax we signed him to a frugal hometown discount deal last summer.

Interesting Paul Stewart blog today on why (in his view) so many bad calls are made on plays around the net. He says the NHL directly discourages refs from skating to the net for a better vantage point.

I felt like they tried to sit on that lead. they would dump it in and peel back to get in coverage. I hate playing like that. I mean, don't make stupid pinches and whatnot but don't just sit back in a total defensive coverage. Of course that said, they did at times clog up the neutral zone and stopped the Pens from getting in the zone at the blue line.

I guess I am resolved to be ok with the style of play for the players they have...I think they are more NJ trap with solid goaltending, then they are PIT with dynamic goal scoring at any moment...

if that equals, wins and points, so be it...and if means a deep (unexpected, but possible) run in the playoffs becasue they get all of the phases of thier game figured out at the right time, well that equals a cup in philly...and far worse teams won cups with the recipe I think the Chef (I mean Chief) is cooking with based on the roster...

That guy looks like he has a job, so no. I'm thinking the useless masses that're probably livestreaming the game he's playing (yes, there are now spectator e-sports).

He doesn't have a job. I saw him on HBO Real Sports last month. He plays video games for a living.

Two guys I watched closely were Nicolas Grossmann and Kris Letang. Letang was like a fourth forward out there for the Penguins. He was shooting from all odd areas of the ice. I think that guy was lucky for not causing more odd man rushes the other way. Letang is considered for the Norris trophy for this type of play every year. In my mind he's easily the most overrated defenseman in the league. Then you have Grossmann who does all the right things with and without the puck, while rarely worrying about the offensive zone. He's shooting a lot more, which is great, but not forcing his own offense. It's ashame to me that a guy like Grossmann will never win the best defenseman award for being the best defensive defenseman in the league. He would have my vote though.

Sounds like a job to me. I mean, I wouldn't tune in to watch him play, but if he's the one getting paid, more power to him. If you dig deeper, you'll find the e-sports scene is trying to do everything real sports do: commentators, play-by-play, etc. I'd love to hear your reactions to that

There are players who are better defensively who also add offense (Chara, Weber come to mind). But he's a perfectly fine 2nd pair shutdown d-man.

I saw the entire feature on HBO. They had a bunch of people fill the Staples Center in LA to watch these dorks play. There were commentators doing play by play. I just sat there and laughed.

Fartsmell has to go, he did nothing last night except negate a further 5 on 3 advantage with that dumb attempt at a slash that missed the target. The ref had his hand up before Hartnell swung so it would have been another penalty for Pitt. He is not generating anything out there. I would say you have to give Read a shot at that spot but his line played very well last night so maybe not a good idea to split them up. I just can't watch his ineffectiveness any longer.
Good win though by the boys last night!

Letang isn't terrible defensively, mostly when he's facing guys his own size but I don't he's doing his team any favors by playing like a fourth forward. I'm sure he's asked to play like this but I feel the more he forces his offense, the longer the Pens losing streak might go. Maybe people will disagree with me on my assessment of Letang but I do feel there are plenty of other defenseman who deserve a lot more credit than they receive.
