From what I can gather he has a phone interview today and only for the hit on Backstrom. So it'll be under 5 - I expect only 1 or 2 though...
- FlyersGrace

I'm guessing it's a 1st offense then, so I'll guess 2 games.

Probably won't get anything, unless they're instituting mid-season preseason games.

Jackson has been doing Flyers games for at least 15+ years. I guess there are no plans to replace him. Lucky for us he's still a young guy. He can do another 20 years.
- PLindbergh31

I much prefer listening to Tim Saunders and Chris Therien. Therien, to be brutally honest has a terrible voice, but he's knowledgeable about the game and brings some passion to the broadcast, and he has a great on-air rapport with Tim Saunders.

While I could do without Saunder's voice rising to a shrill screech every time there's a shot or a score, that sort of thing seems to be de rigueur among broadcasters, so I'll give him a pass.

Solid effort again. Weathered the first 10 min storm.

As far as Doc / Pierre / Enzo, it's almost comedic in their delivery and man-crush on Sid + Pens. How Enzo could cry and cry over Giroux milking that slash and then not comment on the world's greatest / strongest player showcasing the balance of a 2 yr old is beyond ridiculous.

Is it me or has Simmonds remembered how to handle the puck again? Seems like past few games, has controlled pucks on boards, made good passes.

Really enjoying the line combos right now (sans Rosehill). Keep it up.....

- bgratch

The balance thing is really incredible isn't it? I'm still trying to figure out how he trips on a stick poking the side of his skate and ends up with both feet in front of him in mid air and not falling to the side.

Coots just threw his hands up the second time.

One thing I don't like anymore is that they turn the intermission over to "the studio." I miss Dorny's "Stop it right there." Man was an artist. Also, I never thought I'd say this, but I miss Coatsey's corner. Just put 2 men in the booth, let Coatsey give his little interjections, and let them run the show for 2 1/2 hours.

Kadri is lucky that I'm not the Dean of NHL Discipline. If I were, it'd be an easy 23 game suspension.

1 game for the Granlund hit, 2 for the forearm shiver to Backstrom's head, and 20 for being a Leaf.

a win is a win!

but

Emery won this game as well as the hockey gods allowing the penguin gunners to miss the net on a ton of open shots, Emery's great positioning & rebound control may have been the reason they missed so often as they were frustrated & trying to aim too much or kill the puck, but like they say, we got through the first 10 minutes which were scary, but he held them in.

I like the commentators on when Giroux was slashed in the hand & they said he accentuated it a little, but when, again & again Crosby goes down pretty easy nothing is said, including in the 3rd period in front of our net when he dove in frustration trying to get one more power play with about 6 minutes left.

We played well, but again, the goaltending primarily won it!

- puckhead17

I was thinking the same exact thing. At one point Coots even threw his hands up when Cindy took a dive late, expecting them to call that dive, luckily they didn't fall for that one. For the 'greatest player in the game' you would think he was more stable on his skates, he goes down easier then my 11 yr old sometimes.

A good day to be a flyer fan that's for sure! I hope they can keep this up. Really glad Simmonds has relearned how to play hockey.
I do believe with the way this goaltending has played this cam be a playoff team.

This is more of what I expected from the Flyers this year. I never thought they were a cup contender yet. they still need a few more pieces as well as growth of some of their young players but I did expect them to be in the hunt for the 6-8 playoff spot. The last 3 games has been very encouraging.

its funny, as a big Flyers fan, I always want to see them win. As a long time "suffering" fan dying for a cup and parade, there is a twinge inside that wants to see them get a few top end draft picks and build through the draft. People can laugh at the Sabres now but they are doing a nice job of accumulating top picks. between 2013 and 2015 drafts they will have picked 5 in the first round and 9 in the second.

What amazes me is that G gets slashed on a wrist when he's had surgery to repair both and possibly could have been on the hand he hurt right before the season started but he's "selling it".
C'mon? Really?
Fine then please explain why Hartnell got an offsetting penalty for missing a slash?

Hartnell's penalty was called for intent (two hand swing and a miss). As far as I'm concerned, it was the proper call. The one that had me steamed was the no-call on Malkin for mauling Couturier.

I've watched Bob a little bit this year, he hasn't been very good, and his numbers are way down. There has been a definite drop off to be sure from the whole team, but his play hasn't been nearly as strong as it was last year.

I actually thought the Backstrom hit was worse than the other one. Deliberately stuck out the forearm/elbow, and followed it up by landing on his head. I've indifferent on him overall, but it was quite bush league last night.
- jmatchett383

and the fact that Backstrom was knocked out of the game. I can't believe no one kick the living poop out of Nadri.

Man I feel refreshed after that win. My hate for the Pens is back on. God I loved seeing 7 million dollar boy Letang give a weak love tap to B Schenn as his effort to stop that put back!!

That team is still as spineless as ever.

That win was never going to be a pretty one. I thought the Flyers did what they had to to make it out of there with 2 pts.

I agree Malkin needed to cut that crap out and the refs didn't care. He even looked around once the set was done like "Did anyone see that?"

I actually like Emerick. I know I'm in the minority, but I like him. Pierre I could do without, but at the same time, he's a good villian. He even works himself into the rivalry.
- jmatchett383

I like Doc. I actually don't mind Piere too much. I just think he is super creepy. maybe its the coach in him but his love affair with certain players (Crosby and Mike Richards are two that come to mind) just creeps me out.

he's older, has more experience, and uses his size better. he's also a better puckhandler. i think bob is a more gifted athlete, physically, but i'd agree with al for the moment.

flyers could have easily lost this game with the amount of point blank chances. the pens are fast and just so skilled with moving the puck. they misfired a lot and emery was there to make all the saves. he was brilliant.

nice to see them pull out a win in that kind of game, especially on the road, and against those (frank)ers.

looks like they're starting to come around a bit in all areas of the ice. i thought downie quietly had a nice game.

- hammarby31

I have been impressed with his play in his own end. I think once the cage gets off we'll see an even better Downie.

made me sick. i was watching live when it happened, and was going nuts that they did nothing. not to mention he then runs the other guy and gets a match. (frank)ing asshat.

Great win, lots of good work away from the puck and skated well for 3 periods...and avoided the big goal against a very dangerous team.

For the good Mayor of Angrytown, it appears we can stay angry and unsatisfied and got our 4 points out of these two games

I didn't like the rivals show as much as others had hyped it, and maybe becasue I am older, but they really focused on Pitt way to much for my liking...2 much back from dead as a hockey team or how they were being beaten up by the Flyers..they most telling Pitt tilt on that was the over the top Mario stuff (amazing player and has twice bailed this franchise out) and the 10 second sound clip on Lindros...Lindros changed the game as much as Mario did in his time...No discussion of the two "Mutants" as Pronger called Lindros and Leclair...The did cover "the shift" at length, so maybe the goal was to provide some history, but focus on 2008 forward for the younger audience...I also did not like that they ignored Jagr's contribution to Pitt...without him, there would not be two cups...mario was not that good by himself, and not once did they recognize that...

I thought Downie played a solid game last night, and must give props to Ian p for training up Zac R to play critical PK time...not sure how many people noticed, but he was out there for some really important PK time and did very well...Outside of Rosehill's inconsistancy, i think there are enough players moving forward to have a real solid 4th line as some of these guys work together...

- JW98FlyerFan

I guess there wasn't enough time to cover it all but I do agree about Jagr and would have liked to have seen more of Lindros and LeClair. it was a nice touch including Mario's last game and how the fans (I was actually there) cheered him. They did forget about Mario's coming back from hodgkin's disease and how the "hated" fans cheered him then too. Overall I liked it

there were a handful of failed clears when the puck was just out of reach or took a weird hop and the pens ALWAYS manage to turn those into tic-tac-toe golden scoring chances. it amazes me how they do this. the crosby double jam at the net right at the end of the 2nd is a perfect example. i still can't believe he didn't score there.

i would have liked to see more puck possession and offensive zone time in the third. the pens basically controlled the period, and we've seen a number of games already where the flyers have pissed away 2 points because of those kinds of 3rd periods. overall, i liked the way they played and they escaped with the points, which i guess is all that matters at the moment.

- hammarby31

I felt like they tried to sit on that lead. they would dump it in and peel back to get in coverage. I hate playing like that. I mean, don't make stupid pinches and whatnot but don't just sit back in a total defensive coverage. Of course that said, they did at times clog up the neutral zone and stopped the Pens from getting in the zone at the blue line.
