Yeah. I took that as meaning he would be a perennial 40 goal guy like Stamkos, Ovie, perry etc.

Corey Perry isn't a consistent 40 goal scorer.

I never said JvR would be a consistent 40 goal scorer. You have to be on the same level as Alexander Ovechkin or Steven Stamkos these days to score 40 consistently. I will put JVR on the same level as Jeff Carter someday, if not this season. The key for him is to stag healthy. He will slump every season he plays but I think he'll have a strong start and a strong end every season.
- Schenn2shine

actually, you did. you said 40 goal scorer at a minimum.

jeff carter scored 40 goals once.

Well, a guy like cheechoo potted 56 one year then vanished like a fart in the wind. Getting 40 one year is impressive, but I thought you meant JVR would be hitting 40 constantly. I think JVR will be hitting around 30 consistently.
- PhillySportsGuy

In his case, injuries really derailed him. He wasn't a big dude, but he was explosive.

He had 50 a few years ago, 37 two years ago and and is on pace for 45 this season.

He's such an amazing story. They should do a 30 for 30 on him. I'm being half sarcastic. Can you be half sarcastic?

I'll own up to wording it wrong but as I've stated, the only players who are consistent for scoring more than 40 is Stamkos and Ovechkin. Take a guy like Marian Gaborik, he's got like four 40 goal seasons in his career but he doesn't do it consistently. Bobby Ryan might be on the verge of 40 someday but he's never hit 40, as is Kessel. Simon Gagne has hit 40 twice but due to injuries will never do it again. Jeff Carter hasn't hit 40 in years but it isn't to say he'll never do it again because he's still an awesome scorer. So what do you call inconsistent 40 goal scorers or guys on the verge?

I think JVR has a shot at hitting 40 one day. I think he's a fringe all star. Won't make it every year, but will make his fair share.

McGillis did have better offensive ability than Schenn does. But I don't think McGillis had good hockey sense. Schenn doesn;t have great hockey sense, either, but McGillis would infuriate me.
- Jsaquella

Schenn has to play angles better & be more of a positional player, taking risks can't be part of his game.

So when I say JvR will be 40 goal scorer at minimum one day, he does manage to do it.once but never again, what do you call that? Corey Perry hit 50 once and never again (yet), is he still considsred to be a 50 goal scorer? Perry hasn't scored 50 since 2011.

I know. He certainly has a lot limitations for a top 5 pick. He doesn't skate too well or have much in terms of puck skills.

Very true.

He can work on his trouble spots...just concerns me that he's go so many peaks and valleys

You should have worded it that way. I'm more about consistency. It's nice to have one great season, but I want to be able to count on a guy year in and year out.

JVR has flashed the ability of being a top player in the league, but his inconsistency has always held him back.

Well, he'll end up becoming Kevin Lowe out in Edmonton when we trade him for Nail "Zherdev" Yakupov in 3 or 4 weeks

Where is Zherdev?

Has there ever been a more waste of talent in NHL history than Nik Zherdev?
