Over Jack Edwards? At least Jackson's never laughed at a player being injured.
And I don't really like Jeanerette, legend or not. He sounds like a rooster being castrated while drowning in water...and is a pretty big homer.

But yeah, after those 2, Jackson's pretty bad.

I still prefer Jackson over the NBC ones.

I actually like Emerick. I know I'm in the minority, but I like him. Pierre I could do without, but at the same time, he's a good villian. He even works himself into the rivalry.

Great win, lots of good work away from the puck and skated well for 3 periods...and avoided the big goal against a very dangerous team.

For the good Mayor of Angrytown, it appears we can stay angry and unsatisfied and got our 4 points out of these two games

I didn't like the rivals show as much as others had hyped it, and maybe becasue I am older, but they really focused on Pitt way to much for my liking...2 much back from dead as a hockey team or how they were being beaten up by the Flyers..they most telling Pitt tilt on that was the over the top Mario stuff (amazing player and has twice bailed this franchise out) and the 10 second sound clip on Lindros...Lindros changed the game as much as Mario did in his time...No discussion of the two "Mutants" as Pronger called Lindros and Leclair...The did cover "the shift" at length, so maybe the goal was to provide some history, but focus on 2008 forward for the younger audience...I also did not like that they ignored Jagr's contribution to Pitt...without him, there would not be two cups...mario was not that good by himself, and not once did they recognize that...

I thought Downie played a solid game last night, and must give props to Ian p for training up Zac R to play critical PK time...not sure how many people noticed, but he was out there for some really important PK time and did very well...Outside of Rosehill's inconsistancy, i think there are enough players moving forward to have a real solid 4th line as some of these guys work together...

I like Emerick too, he calls a good game and even if you closed your eyes, you would have a pretty good idea what was going on and by which player...

Pierre is a worm, I still laugh when you see his face when he is the middle of the benches when Tony G and Lavi were yelling at each other...Almost looks like he is looking for his thumb

flyers could have easily lost this game with the amount of point blank chances. the pens are fast and just so skilled with moving the puck. they misfired a lot and emery was there to make all the saves. he was brilliant.

nice to see them pull out a win in that kind of game, especially on the road, and against those (frank)ers.

looks like they're starting to come around a bit in all areas of the ice. i thought downie quietly had a nice game.

The goaltending has been a pleasant surprise. A breath of fresh air.

Winning is more fun than losing.

Edit: Hope Hextall is patient. Hope he doesn't have any interest in the Buffalo GM job.

When Emrick retires Dave Strader will be the # 1 guy. He's excellent.

I think Jim Jackson is about the worst pbp guy in the league. Can't listen to him.

I think the Pens are having a case of the "Flyers" right now...poor shots that are not on target...Emery made some huge saves, got a break on some, but if you look at what Chief did with his matchups (which was mentioned over and over last night) he was able to limit the top 2 lines for Pitt, and lets face it, they really don't have anything past those two lines, so the team D was able to contain the game...very limited pressure in our zone, when they did, it was scary, but overall the Flyers were able to clear the zone quickly...

How great is it that (so far) the goaltending is the least of problems? Eventually they will start scoring 3+ goals a game. The biggest concern is the lack of mobility on the blueline. If that area can be addressed this could be a playoff team.

Also, what was with Kunitz spearing Timonen at the faceoff late in the game? Kimmo's about the nicest on-ice player you'll ever meet (now that Knuble's gone), and Kunitz just acted like a total punk. Call out Simmonds/Hartnell all you want about face washes and mugging, but that, to me, was pure bush league.

Jackson has been doing Flyers games for at least 15+ years. I guess there are no plans to replace him. Lucky for us he's still a young guy. He can do another 20 years.

Don't worry, once they start scoring the tending will go in the tank...

there were a handful of failed clears when the puck was just out of reach or took a weird hop and the pens ALWAYS manage to turn those into tic-tac-toe golden scoring chances. it amazes me how they do this. the crosby double jam at the net right at the end of the 2nd is a perfect example. i still can't believe he didn't score there.

i would have liked to see more puck possession and offensive zone time in the third. the pens basically controlled the period, and we've seen a number of games already where the flyers have pissed away 2 points because of those kinds of 3rd periods. overall, i liked the way they played and they escaped with the points, which i guess is all that matters at the moment.

Excellent all around effort last night, especially considering they didn't get into Pitts til around 3am.
Some observations:
Emery was outstanding last night, it's really nice to be able to say that the one constant all season long for the Flyers has been excellent goaltending!

Matt Read was flying all over the ice last night and consistently forced Pittsburgh turnovers. In fact, the entire line of Downie-Couturier-Read was fantastic and did a great job shutting down Crosby's line.

Simmonds was a one man wrecking crew last night. This is how he needs to play be successful.

Brayden Coburn was a rock and Kimmo Timonen had, hands down, his best game of the season. Just when I was ready to write Timonen off, he finds a way to step his game up. He is the ultimate ice warrior!

Nik Grossmann just physically dominated the Pens forwards last night and really got under Malkin's skin especially. It was fun to watch!

Anyone still think Brayden Schenn is a complete bust?

While Luke Schenn didn't play a lot of minutes last night, I thought overall he played pretty well.

Looks like Craig Berube just may be a pretty good coach after all. Since the 6 day break in late October the team is 6-3-1 and playing much better in all 3 zones.

And now the few negatives from last night:

While he didn't particularly have a bad game, Giroux still needs to do more. Voracek played well, but G was average at best and Hartnell was pretty much invisible. The 1st line needs to step it up.

The penalty Rosehill took was a bad one, that needs to stop or he needs to come out of the lineup.

The 1st team pp needs to get it going.

All in all it was a great game and if they can pull off a victory in Winnipeg, it will be one heck of a road trip.

i would say the goaltending isn't a problem at all. the d needs to be quicker and move the puck more accurately. not sure they can fix that.

Random non-Flyers thought: I wonder what the over-under for Nazem Kadri's suspension should be? He had himself quite a night.
- Doc_Sarcasm

Has he ever been suspended before? If no, I'm thinking 3-5 games, if yes, it could very well be 8-10.

The Crosby double cross check to Grossmann at the net right at the end of the 2nd is a perfect example of him never getting a penalty, I still can't believe Grossmann didn't get 2 for getting in the way of Crosby's stick.

From what I can gather he has a phone interview today and only for the hit on Backstrom. So it'll be under 5 - I expect only 1 or 2 though...

Solid effort again. Weathered the first 10 min storm.

As far as Doc / Pierre / Enzo, it's almost comedic in their delivery and man-crush on Sid + Pens. How Enzo could cry and cry over Giroux milking that slash and then not comment on the world's greatest / strongest player showcasing the balance of a 2 yr old is beyond ridiculous.

Is it me or has Simmonds remembered how to handle the puck again? Seems like past few games, has controlled pucks on boards, made good passes.

Really enjoying the line combos right now (sans Rosehill). Keep it up.....

Don't forget the constant interference non-calls particularly by Crosby in the first period... I thought I was watching basketball there for a bit.
