That was an off-season offer, if they still wanted Coburn the price would likely go up for the Oilers.

Arguing it in the Edmonton thread now.
- jmatchett383

Remember the needs of the team as well.. Of course Edmonton will give up 2nds like Homer on a bender. They need to improve the current product after years of high drafting. We are searching for a stud Dman to ADD to this group that includes Timonen who will prob retire soon. We're not going to trade a solid NHL dman for 3 2nds unless they are rebuilding which isn't the plan.

Wow, that took a lot of faith by Homer in Coby being able to rebound from what seemed like a significant regression in order not to take that offer imo...Coburns improved play in the past several games seems be validating that decision.

To me, there's a a few critical conditions.

1. Timing. Did Edmonton offer those 2nd rounders to the Flyers prior to the end of the first round? My interest in getting those second rounders would be in using them to either move up from 11th overall or to snag an extra 1st round pick. If they offered them at the end of the first round, after the possibility of moving up or adding a first was exhausted, my interest would have died.

2. The Flyers wouldn't be getting a NHL ready player in the trade. They didn't sign Lecavalier and Streit to rebuild. They expected-expect-to be a playoff team. You don't move one of your best defensemen for picks in that case.

3. Value. Douglas Murray got his former team 2 2nd rounders at the trade deadline. Murray is basically little more than a 6th defenseman at this point, who brings grit and toughness...plus he was a UFA and obvious rental. Coburn has a few years left at a reasonable hit and he's only 28. Despite a bad season in 2013, he was still young enough to rebound.

If they hung onto him, they could concievably get considerably more at the TDL

For all the supposed prices of all the D men we've looked at over the past few years there is no way I take anything less than a 1st rounder+ for Coburn.

Also, if memory serves correctly Homer and MacT were shown talking at the draft floor toward the very end of the 1st round so any moving up would have been minimal. I remember because I was watching it at home at that point. I got up and walked out of Xfinity when they took Morin.

I'd take either, if the right offer comes along you could still move it for a 2015 pick later.

I was talkin about Mez, not Coburn. Coburn should not be dealt in my opinion

If they are shopping what looks like will be a lottery pick, the Flyers should listen.

Just watching the NESN Bruins pre game show and one of the hosts is Leah Hextall. I think she is a relative of Ron's as she was on TSN as well for a while.... perhaps she can go and slap Edwards on behalf of us Hextall/Flyers fans lol

Flyers can't afford to trade Coburn at this point. He's a solid Dman at a reasonable cost. It would have to be a huge haul.
