1. It seems that rather than give them 10 games under Berube to show signs of life I should've given them 15 as things finally seem to be clicking a little.

2. Emery stole that game. Yes, it goes in the win column, and the 2 points are much needed, but Emery stole that game for them.

3. They played a classic "hold on for dear life" game in the third period. Usually it backfires. Happily it did not.

4. Many of them had good games, but I still would like to see more. Their offensive pressure last night was pretty lame, and virtually invisible in the third.

5. Silver lining: there does seem to be light at the end of this tunnel.

6. You may now proceed with beating me up for not wearing orange colored glasses today.

I'm with you. They were nice enough to me earlier.

He has a lot of NHL games under his belt. IMO he wouldnt turn pucks over at the rate Raffl does. Why are we skating Rosehill? Why can't we have the choice b/w Raffl or Eaves?

Also Rinaldo has been downright ineffective over the past 2 or 3 weeks

Lets face it, Detroits trash might very well be better than our treasures

- Just5

jesus christ man let the team get settled into their groove before we pick up more role players raffl is signed and is here we might as well spend the time to fully evaluate him players like eaves are always available

You and I watched a different game, the game i watch Zac had some good chances moving the puck in Pits zone and was also on the ice on the PK, in fact he had a key clear during the last PP in the 3rd...for a guy that doesn't get many minutes and isn't a cap liability, i think you are reaching a bit to so we should swap out a guy who has 30 points over the last 3 years...

I think by "ineffective" he means isn't nailing players (he tried to last night, launched himself into the boards) or fighting. "Walking the line" so to speak.

1. Agree
2. Agree, but that has to happen some nights, and if the last 20 years have said anything, that didn't happen for us enough.
3. Disagree...a bit...I don't think this was the same "turtle" 3rd period...normally they spend a ton of time chasing the puck in thier own end, last night they didn't. i agree they did not press, but they spent a ton of time on the neutral zone, not chasing the puck in thier own zone, which is what usually happens, pitt could never keep the puck in the zone and set up, and for me, that is completely different...they were actually able to move the puck around and then clear it..
4. Agree, but defense first does win games and doesn't lose them with the 1000 odd man rushes you create with bad chances...the goals will come, and if they don't, if they can win 2-1, 1-0 i thnk we should accept it, NJ won 3 cups with that model...not sexy, but wins are what you need.
5. Agree
6. nope...

In the 3rd, they had very active sticks in the neutral zone. I heard a stat that they didn't allow a SOG over the last 7 1/2 minutes or something like that. They were getting pucks in deep and getting in on the forecheck. When you're playing with a lead against a team like the Penguins, who have a good transition game, that's what you want to do. Get cute with it when they institute a press and you've got odd man rushes all period long. The best way to negate that is to make them go 200 feet and fight for every inch of the ice.

Interesting.

i was thinking that this morning. it's good i don't run a team or there would be 3 gm's a week and i'd be turning the lineup over w/ every loss

i have to disagree here moatesy. they didn't look frozen with fear or dejected, they held on to a slim lead against a skilled and rested team in the third.
- -davies-

i agree. the first 10 minutes of the third was a clinic in safe, defensive play. i was thinking i would like to see more chance but they shut them down and gave up nothing. the last 10 the pens upped the pressure but didn't finish chances.
