I'll tell you what, take a little nap and we promise to wake you up when the Flyers win a Cup, that way you won't have to put up with all the little disappointments along the way.

"Couts shut down 2 of the best hockey players in the world last night

but he's useless, cant score, no good for anything"
- Flyersrock

Truth be told, Crosby and Malkin both got a good amount quality chances last night (Malkin set up some nice plays too)...Emery and maybe Grossmann had more to do with "shutting them down" than Coots last night, though I loved seeing Couturier's agitating getting under Shrek's skin (again)!

- exlund

Couturier was solid last night. Led forwards in ice time with 22:38. Would have like to seen him do a little better on draws, only won 39%. People don't understand a player doesn't have to score to play well.

I have al the Howard stories into kindle bookshelf into iPhone....
Can't think of any other variety short stories I can plop into at a given time and get totally absorbed inside of a half hour or so... Perfect for doctor's office etc.

- JoeRussomanno

Absolutely. I don't have a kindle, but I do have a collection of all REH's Conan stories (and another one of some Kull/Bran Mak Morn/Solomon Kane stories) in the bathroom. Good to just flip to a page and start.

Speaking of which, if you haven't read "Kings of the Night," I suggest it. It may be my favorite REH story. And if you have 2 hours to kill, check out the Solomon Kane movie. It's much better than you'd expect, and is a pretty good depiction of the character.

Too much opining.

Exactly, so grating happens more than informing. It was the other way around in radio. I miss Gene Hart so much.

Even though I find the last few games extremely boring to watch I have admit it seems it's what these young players need. It's nice to see them starting to progress in the defense aspect And playing as a 5 man unit. It can only help in the long run. B schenn is coming along very nicely. Now we got to get coots going with some offense. Feel like he's starting to see things offensively a little bit better out there. Time to take a baby step foRward.

Berube kept him out there to match up against Shrek and Cindy, but it's not really accurate to say he shut them down...they did get their looks and chances, and without Emery saving the bacon, would we be singing those same praises?
I don't mean to detract from what was a good effort though...it was no small task.

Agreed. There isn't anyone in the NHL who can shut Malkin and Crosby down to the point where they don't generate quality chances.

Couturier has great hockey instinct, and is extremely sound defensively. Hopefully his skating and offensive skills develop.

It's virtually impossible for any 1 person (or most 5-man units) to shut them down completely. They're going to get their chances over the course of a game. That said, he did a very good job at limiting them.

Why would they want him playing over Raffl?

But they wouldn't get him to be a star, they'd get him to be a 3rd/4th liner. However, like Master of the Silmarils said, they have Raffl who's just a younger version of him. Still, he's only 29, but not sure of his contract status.

He has a lot of NHL games under his belt. IMO he wouldnt turn pucks over at the rate Raffl does. Why are we skating Rosehill? Why can't we have the choice b/w Raffl or Eaves?

Also Rinaldo has been downright ineffective over the past 2 or 3 weeks

Lets face it, Detroits trash might very well be better than our treasures

1. It seems that rather than give them 10 games under Berube to show signs of life I should've given them 15 as things finally seem to be clicking a little.

2. Emery stole that game. Yes, it goes in the win column, and the 2 points are much needed, but Emery stole that game for them.

3. They played a classic "hold on for dear life" game in the third period. Usually it backfires. Happily it did not.

4. Many of them had good games, but I still would like to see more. Their offensive pressure last night was pretty lame, and virtually invisible in the third.

5. Silver lining: there does seem to be light at the end of this tunnel.

6. You may now proceed with beating me up for not wearing orange colored glasses today.

Hall is a quality 4th line player. He was effective on the PK and won 7 of 8 faceoffs. I would prefer the Flyers replace Rinaldo and Rosehill on the 4th line with more capable players. I don't understand why McGinn can't play a 4th line role for 6-8 minutes a game.
