In his defense, Therrien is a terrible coach.

Seems to me that Montreal has also been historically bad at shootouts. Would be shocked if they're overall shootout winning % was above 30%.

Let's bring back tie games.

Either that, or adopt the baseball rule of play until somebody wins.

Team has to play the next night? Guess they'll be taking extra chances in OT. Players are tired after a long OT game? Better call up some players from the farm/dress the guys from the pressbox. I fail to see the downside here.

Players would be constantly tired (especially at the end of the year). More injuries, tired players give less of a good show. Lots of people love the shootout, it's a quick and entertaining way to determinate a winner.

You know americans love that poop. It won't go away anytime soon with Bettman at the head of the league.

Keep it, but make OT last 10 minutes.

Give tired players a day off. Problem solved.

hockey is a bit more demanding in terms of effort required to continue playing

play the game, 5 or 10 minutes of overtime.

win 2 points
loss 0 points
tie 0 points

problem solved.

edit: upon reviewing m own post it's actually pretty dumb.

So you'd pay to go see a Penguins game 5 months in advance to be told "Crosby was tired today, they gave him the night off.". Yeah right, good plan !

Continuous OT belongs only in the postseason.

I don't know why everyone tries to concoct a new gimmick and/ot points given system.

Just go back to the way it was. That simple. It shouldn't have changed in the first place.

Players not playing is a risk regardless. Illness, injury, etc....

Players are tired so call up guys from the farm team? Did you hit your head this morning?

It was a simplified way of making a point. If guys are tired, you find ways to ice a roster. Simple as that.

But I know you're just trying to sound condescending, so please continue.

EDIT: Meehan should use this song in contract negotiations. He'd pound Bergevin into submission within 10 minutes.
