Andy Mcdonald says Nolan was his best coach too. He was the one that advised him to go to ECHL to get better.

Maybe we can get one of the Sabre defense in exchange for A-mac.

Curious - Should we start a Counter to how many A-Mac PP point shots dont hit the net?

And to clarify on POULIN. I said i dont think he is our answer and that is b/c he flip flops alot. (last game was first time he didnt) . And yes im estatic to see him play over Nabby (whom i think has been aweful)

We honestly do not know if Poulin is the answer only because he is young and does not have enough game experience to really judge what he can/cant be.

Sometimes goalies take time to adjust to the speed and angles of the NHL.
So why is everyone so quick to dismiss Poulin???

Isles have not given him proper development for the NHL level. And if the Isles are only giving this year for him to figure it out, well then bad judgment by coaching staff & management.

The kid has blossomed in juniors and got high remarks by Patrick Roy, who is doing a fine job himself, lets be patient and see how he develops to the NHL.

I understand that as an Islanders fan, I am used to hearing people badger every player they see. can we at least for once support Poulin and think that he might be the answer to our future? Can we do that? I know that he started in few games but hey, lord knows that none of isles goalies did what he did in years...probably since Osgood!

I've been writing this in reference to him for over a year now....
The flip-flop crap is cliche at this point and as someone who spent years helping goaltenders, drives me nuts. Most of the time your goaltender 'flopping' around means your defense is doing too damn little to get the puck out of danger zones. If your goalie is flopping it's because there are too many loose pucks in the crease areas. Your goalies job is to block the first shot, then it's on your defense to make the clear. You typically want your goaltender to be as economical in his movements as possible but you also don't want him to be a statue. His 'flopping' means he's busting his ass to stop the puck because your defense can't clear it.

Dominik Hasek might disagree, considering he was very outspoken in saying he was better off without Nolan as coach.

**edit..for the record, both Rob Ray and Mathew Barnaby have gone on record as not being fans of Nolan either.

Again, we're calling the guy a solid head coach because he did well 50% of the time. Frankly I was very unimpressed by Buffalo's performance in that series against the Flyers years ago. He decided to use Barnaby as a lock on Lindros which was downright laughable. Were it not for Hasek that year, that team would likely have been well out of playoff contention. It took DP's best career season along with a great final five games from Dubie to get the Isles in.

I don't doubt that players love Nolan because he gets guys going. He's a good leader, but it takes more than that to be a good coach and in my eyes the jury is still out on Nolan.

Of course Hasek said that! Nolan was (allegedly, no confirmation anywhere of this) sleeping with
Hasek's wife! And I have heard the exact opposite with respect to Barnaby.
