Honestly.. this isn't a good Ottawa team.. their wins could have gone the exact same way at this game did.

They get hemmed in their zone every game, are outshot out powerplayed and only hot goaltending has allowed them their points in the standings.

I would hazard to say that the Detroit win was the only convincing one despite the scoreboards..

(Might be a little down after such a garbage effort last night)

- corbechev

Anderson's lunging stick save last night on G last night was AWESOME. the team owes him drinks after that one.
The good news about tonight is NO WAY can Fleury do the same thing.
I expect (and hope) this to be a high scoring affair... But we'll see if the magic is still there. They have more consistent goal scoring and we've got the better goalie (if Mason plays). I give them the slight advantage on D...

Dreams of Emery kicking the snot out of Fleury are just bad for me...

If we're gonna lose as much as we have, at least do so with our best players in a position to succeed. I couldn't believe at one point Raffl, Giroux and Lecavalier was our top line before trying a number of other things. My biggest worry affter already firing Laviolette and trading Talbot that more players would get traded. In fact it was and still is a fear. I love this group and I don't wanna see anyone else moved. Not a single player.

Edit

That's a lie, I want Pronger and meszaros' contracts to expire.

Most encouraging thing about last night was the chemistry between G, Voracek and Hartnell. Yes, Ottawa's defense is hideous, but those three looked completely different in just about every way last night and I think that's the key. If that line can build off of last night's effort and chemistry, a significant portion of the offensive issues can be put to bed

There have been 3 times where it was warranted. The end of 2008 ECF Game 4 when he and Richards were jawing, the 2008 regular season 8-2 blowout where he submarined Biron, and 2012 ECQF Game 3 basically throughout the entire game.

as a goalie, i loved anderson's save, but i contend that the shot was wide of the net. overhead angle showed it well, i thought.

Random: Has there been a bigger NHL flop in the past 20 years that Jason Botterill? Taken 20th overall with all kinds of hype. 88 games, 5 goals, 9 assists. I remember having really high hopes for him. Some of those mid-90s draft classes are putrid.

I thought that too. Looked like it was hitting the side of the net.

The dmen haven't been awful in their own end, but in today's NHL you need your d to jump start your offense. They simply can't and it's a big problem
- Just5

Disagree...Streit is starting to show he can be an offensive catalyst...Timonen has been a capable point producer form the back end...even Grossmann and Coburn are starting to be more active in getting shots from the point. While I thnik they need to keep a look out for a youngish top 4 offensive D man type going into next season and beyond, they aren't completely incompetent in this area and seem to be improving as they get more comfortable with what Berube wants them doing.

Depends on if we keep winning. If Homer makes us a contender with his moves, I am onboard the byebyehexywagon.

I was in a bar with Pen's fans when that happened. They thought it was the coolest thing ever. I'd be embarrassed if it was one of our guys pulling a female dog move like that.

Actually, it's Jason Bonsignore I was thinking of. Same draft class, but 4th overall. 79 games, 3 G, 13A. The 1994 draft actually improves as you go down in rounds, maximizing in talent at round 10.

Liked what Downie brought tonight
- wilsonecho91

Disagree. I noticed him a few times, but for the most part he looked like a little kid who wasn't fast enough to make an offensive or defensive play.
- jmatchett383

Disagree with your disagreement, lol. Defensively, Downie made at least two backchecking plays where he raced back and blocked potentially dangerous shots. He also picked off a pass or two...offensively, he made some nice, skilled passes and did well in battles. He may not be a speedster, but he more or less makes up for it through hard work and determination.

No luck there. It's only on NBC - I'm not showing that comcast has it at all...
And the NBC announcers are overwhelmingly Penguin friendly...
Sigh.

Flyers D has looked very bad at times this year. Much like Ottawa's D looked pretty bad last night. I think the takeaway here is that when your team is getting outworked on every level (as the Flyers did to the Sens last night), your D will tend to look worse than it really is.

If the team plays the majority of their games the way they did last night, the Flyers' D will not be an issue. If they have to spend entire periods in their own end because the Flyers have no o-zone time and no puck possession, then they will be exposed. This is true of most teams, and perhaps even more so for the Flyers since they're not the most mobile group ever assembled.
