honestly cannot believe they came back from that and didn't freeze up... like i said earlier it looks like a different team... the old team that i knew and loved! - -davies-
I thought the team showed determination and focus to shake off a bit of a rough start and actually get better as the game wore on. I am encouraged by the strong rebound in the play of Coburn/Timonen..Grossmann continues to be a rock out there, he snuffed out like 10 Penguin sorties into the zone with his stick and the body and moved the puck out of the zone efficiently and kept things going in the offensive zone a few times with shots from the point. I don't get why some think this guy isn't worth his salary (aside from maybe the injury risk?). Offensively I think each line had their chances and did fairly well at both ends...top line didn't have that much going tonight, but the depth is starting to bear fruit. Emery came up big and looked soolid all night. Nice win!

+1 on Grossmann
I am pretty sure it was his play against the Pens when he first came here that got him the extension deal, he excels against them

Cosign. I would have liked to have seen a bit more offensive zone puck possession and chances but otherwise a solid effort all around. Thought Hall was solid on the PK as well when Couturier took a penalty. Emery was a gem tonight and the ultimate difference maker.

how are you feeling about berube? - Marc D
i have had some serious doubts, it seemed like he isn't so hot at motivation and i see a tendency to overlook horrendous mistakes by goons that should result in them being benched... in combo with benching schenn in favor of gill...
but if he can keep this turnaround going i'll try to be a believer.

what about you? - -davies-
I'll reserve my ultimate judgement on the Chief until after at least one playoff round.

the biggest thing I like about him is the way he started out getting them to play team D
and once that was in place then the offense is starting to follow
they don't have the back end skill to support a Lavi style attack, and I think Berube has put in a system the team with these players can win with

easy to agree with all of that. it was the games where with 35 minutes left and down one goal the bench looked like a team getting eliminated from a playoff round that had me worried. hopefully that's in the rearview.

I like the way the Flyers tried (and had some notable successes) in denying the Pens entry into the offensive zone in the 3rd period.
If you hadnt known beforehand which team was well rested and which was playing 3 games in 4 nights, you wouldnt have been able to tell by watching tonight's game.

yeah the flyers definitely did well in that regard. although the book on the pens is pretty well known by this point. take away that stretch pass, and they are absolutely flummoxed on how to establish zone possession

Rinaldo looked ok on the PK as well. So that's good. Turn him into a Lappy/Blair Betts type player. And he took a wicked slapshot that gave Fleury some trouble.

Yeah I noticed that Rino slapper as well. I'm guessing only the Flyers really know about it from practice as he rarely gets an opportunity to unload one in an actual game.

He's got the speed and tenacity for the PK, I just worry about him putting us 2 men down while out there. Still, I think he can grow into that role and likely do it well.
