Moulson traded to NYI for Vanek, a 1st, and a 2nd.

He certainly does seem to get up to stick it to us.
I'm curious what his road/home breakdown is versus the Flyers. He seems to really like to stick it to us on our own ice.

- jmatchett383

Yeah that Crosby sucks chant really seems to get to him, huh? so stupid

I see good puck control, a good forcheck and instant chemistry on the third line. It's especially impressive for a kid coming off a concussion, his second game only after a week of not playing for his new team and playing with possibly one good eye with a full cage.
- Schenn2shine

Again, I'm not saying he played bad. I'm saying his foot speed was underwhelming and can (and did) prevent him from being more effective than he is. That has little to do with his facial injury, and is what I thought about him prior to his coming here.

I do like that line. Read had several chances and Downey had his chances too. I wish Couturier would shoot the puck more instead of constantly looking to pass. He did his job though based on the Spezza/Turris lines having a very quiet night.
- PhillySportsGuy

Regardless of the two PP goals, I still feel the Flyers need to switch it up, starting with Couturier coming off the PP and one of Downie or Gustafsson going on full time.

I don't think his lack of foot speed has anything to do with the shot block you pointed out against Downie.

You mean the play where the defense left him alone in front, his shot was blocked, and Read grabbed the puck at the side of the net and raced all the way to the other side for the wraparound? Heck, I'm fast enough to do that.
- jmatchett383

yeah, I am betting you are not but anyway I thought Downie played well. I like him with Couturier and Read. I did get the impression he struggled with the cage at times....like when the puck was in his feet.

I like the Flyers top three lines, I hope Berube doesn't soon feel the need to suddenly shuffle them.

I really hope this escalates to the first FlyersBuzz 1v1 ice hockey challenge.

Agreed. I could argue by line juggling too often, he was making the team worse for a little while. These should have been the line combination coming out of camp.

I feel like it would have been reported if it was a trade. Possible change in management or staff I presume.

They were strong in the second and third periods. They made me a bit nervous, especially Schenn, in the opening period. He got himself caught badly out of position twice. Thereafter, the paring settled in and were as solid as everyone else was last night.
- bmeltzer

I've always felt Schenn and Gus are the sorts who play much better when getting more minutes. I get that. I am actually the same when. your in the game more. I really admire 4th line guys who can be really effective on 6-8 mins a game. it can't be easy

I was at a game where he put up 2G, 2A. During the 3rd a guy tried to start a "Crosby Sucks" chant. I asked him what would constitute not sucking. The inebriated man attempted some sort of profane tirade, at which point I just laughed and tuned him out.

I guarantee you I can take a shot from inside the circles, put it on net, and have an NHL goaltender stop it.

Couturier struggles mightily to create anything offensively. He is so damned good in his own zone. I'm just thrilled to have a young 3rd line center, maybe a 2nd liner in a few years. He's a gem even though he doesn't score

There have been 3 times where it was warranted. The end of 2008 ECF Game 4 when he and Richards were jawing, the 2008 regular season 8-2 blowout where he submarined Biron, and 2012 ECQF Game 3 basically throughout the entire game.

greetings from my mountain place in Georgia and all the sports news is about the Braves moving 12 miles away from downtown Atlanta. The Trashers would still be here if they didnt make a bad decision to play in downtown Atlanta.

Leave the pairing out there to sink or swim. Gus looked good last night. He took it into the ozone on 2 occasions. He needs to do that more often, he has all the skill just needs confidence

Again, when did I say his foot speed had anything to do with a shot being blocked? They are 2 unrelated things. I said he looked slow. Someone else said he was fast enough to get a primary assist. And I said that the assist was off of a save, which had zero to do with his foot speed and more to do with Read's.

I think at this point, if you are going to keep them, you need to let them play out of their respective issues. Live with the mistakes until the mistakes start going away (and they will I believe). Sitting them in the press box is counter productive.

My apologies but Downie's skating has always needed work but I wouldn't say it's made him ineffective because that area of his game hasn't changed since his first stint here. I'm actually surprised the avalanche traded him.

I'm amazed that Tampa Bay is now in its 21st season and, even with a Stanley Cup and one of the most exciting (now injured) players in the game, they still can't a following yet have not been relocated.
