Emery didnt have anything to say ?

No, no one expected Dubnyk to challenge Mason to a fight. He was seen, however, not sporting a cap on the bench.

Disagree. I noticed him a few times, but for the most part he looked like a little kid who wasn't fast enough to make an offensive or defensive play.
- jmatchett383

I thought Downie looked good last night, esp. having to play with the full shield. He had some nice give and go passes. You can see he is a lot more creative offensively than Talbot and can win the battles along the boards.

The play that Read scored on was real nice.

He was fast enough to get the primary assist on the opening goal.

I would expect anyone to play a little tentative with that cage. He probably doesnt have much confidence with it. From what ive seen with him so far...what the hell have we lost in the trade again haha?

I would suggest watching the game again. Downie showed good hands, puck control and I don't have the numbers infringement of me but I'm willing to bet he was one of the players to be credited with a takeaway for this team. He was as great as the rest of the squad. There wasn't a single bad forward on the ice last night.

You mean the play where the defense left him alone in front, his shot was blocked, and Read grabbed the puck at the side of the net and raced all the way to the other side for the wraparound? Heck, I'm fast enough to do that.

He probably is a little tentative. Not gonna argue there. But I watched him in Colorado earlier, and I watched his other Flyers game in person. He moves his feet, but he just is not very fast. There was a play in the second where a Sens player was against the boards in the neutral zone and received a pass with a bouncing puck. Downie was coming at him from close range, but the guy had ample time to settle the puck and make an easy cross-ice pass before Downie was able to check him. He just cannot get to players fast enough.

He has good offensive instincts, and plays hard. But I don't think he's all that good, personally.

Again, not gonna argue his offensive instincts. He just looks a step behind everyone else out there, and did before the injury as well.

C'mon. In the history of the sport a player's shot has never been blocked? The kid was wearing a full cage. His left eye looks black, I'm surprised he can see out of it. It was his first game back and second since being traded back here. He deserves a lot of credit for his play last night.

The point wasn't that the goalie made a save. He tried to argue that Downie's assist somehow proved he was fast. I was merely stating that Downie's foot speed had zero to do with that assist.

Alright, but your point being made was Downie didn't have a good game but he did.

Flyers looked really strong last night , should be a great game tonite , and finally the Wednesday night rivalry is actually a rivalry , instead of nbc playing it up to be.

I guess I wouldn't say he necessarily had a bad game, but he looked a little ineffective at times, if that's a better way to put it. I guess I'm always going to be a little biased towards him.

I hope Grossmann is fine, but it's nice to see Luke Schenn with 20+ minutes of ice time again. I thought he and Gustafsson looked very solid.
- Feanor

They were strong in the second and third periods. They made me a bit nervous, especially Schenn, in the opening period. He got himself caught badly out of position twice. Thereafter, the paring settled in and were as solid as everyone else was last night.

I see good puck control, a good forcheck and instant chemistry on the third line. It's especially impressive for a kid coming off a concussion, his second game only after a week of not playing for his new team and playing with possibly one good eye with a full cage.

I feel like it would have been reported if it was a trade. Possible change in management or staff I presume.

I do like that line. Read had several chances and Downey had his chances too. I wish Couturier would shoot the puck more instead of constantly looking to pass. He did his job though based on the Spezza/Turris lines having a very quiet night.

Schenn looks very timid and unsure of himself out there. Do you think this is a confidence thing that he can play through and get back to his playing level of last year? Something akin to the offensive woes we seem to be climbing out of.
