once you turn on the ranger game after the islanders get blown out by the end of the 1st, try to pay attention to the little things mcdonagh does. it's not hard because he's out there for 25+ minutes a game. - rangerdanger94
Thanks kid. I've been watching hockey longer than you've been breathing so every once in a while even this old geezer notices the little things |

the only Dmen i pick over mcdonagh are named suter and karlsson. i pick mcdonagh over subban, doughty, and even weber. - rangerdanger94
That's funny, I'd take Mcdonagh over Karrlson any day of the week. Maybe Subban? Other than that I'd take every other one over him as of now. |

well, would you rather have Doughty at 7 million a year or McDonagh at 4.7 million a year.
You guys talk about how awesome Tavares is especially for his cap hit, this is kind of what I'm talking about - jimbro83
I get that but i'd take Doughty at seven million. Would you take Crosby at 8 million or Tavares at 5.5 million? |

Are we talking purely on the ice or taking everything into consideration? Because I would not want Weber due to that insane contract. But purely on hockey of course that's a different story. |

I would probably take Pietrangelo, Weber, Karlsson and Sutter over Mcdonagh. Maybe OEL too. But that's it. Subban and Doughty still handle the puck poorly at times. |

First Line Franchise Centers =/= Defenseman. I want to save $3M on my #1 Dman so I can spend the $8M on Crosby without blinking. The better question is would you rather Doughty and JT or Mac and Crosby (that's about even $$) I think its the second one and it's not even close. |

Well yeah factoring in the contract brings a whole different element(as i think Jimbro was saying)of course. I'm an islander fan we don't think about such things as the salary cap. In this particular instance i was referring to play on ice. |

pietrangelo is great but i think he's slightly overhyped. he's regressed a bit. weber with that deal...no way. suter and karlsson yes, everyone else, no. |

Of course but Crosby is the one who would make anyone make that decision. Not to take away from Mcdionagh the kid is incredible but Doughty is at a different level IMO. Has won a cup and has more tangibles at this point. Very different players I know but I'd take him, maybe just personal preference but I'd say a lot of people who weren't ranger fans would probably do the same and that could have something to do with limited exposure to seeing him play, etc? With that said Mcdonagh xcertainly has the potential to make Doughty an after thought. |

you sound convinced it would be stupid to trade McDonagh for Yakupov |

Alex Peitrangelo is on pace to have a career year. If their has been a regression, it must have been a slight one. He's the best young defensmen in the world. |

100% Agreed. Everyone keeps putting out that same deal. I bet Sather put that on the table and is just going to wait it out and see if they accept like he did with CBJ and Nash. - mrhattrick27
this, and if nothing changes in edmonton they are going to need to accept that deal because yak will want out badly, maybe add kristo or zucc though, but i wouldn't care if we were icing

I'm not saying it's a smart move at all. Just saying it would be plausible and I'd think sather would consider it if the Oilers upped the ante. With his contract there is a minimal chance on a team like yours that's consistently against the cap. But still a chance. Or maybe I just don't want you guys to have Mcdonagh anymore? |

He hasn't been playing well recently? He stood out to me a few games that i watched though i haven't been watching lately with the disgust I have watching my team it's sometimes hard to watch you guys play well. |

on a third line like that where hags gets a lot of pucks and brass dishing them to him i think he will be good.. |

he's a lot like wolski or christensen in the sense that he's the best player on the ice for 2 games and then disappears and takes terrible penalties for the next 10. a lot of talent, good size, and skating ability. he's gotta put it together. |

He generally gets at least one excellent offensive chance per game but too often will pass it up to try to make a pass through two defenders. That combined with the ugly, mistimed turnovers. He has size, speed and skill but just hasn't put it together on a consistent basis.

Honestly I like us the way we are now.... and this is how I would set the lines up after Nash's return. Hags giving Nash time and space with his speed. Then you have Cally as a great third liner, with him there you can just roll three lines without giving up offense.
I guess I just wouldn't be too upset if we don't trade for Yakupov, at least at this point |

I actually agree with you. Its the salary that makes it not ok for me. Pure play on ice of course Doughty > Mac. Simply because he has a huge offensive element to his game that Mac doesn't have. But I'm hesitant to spend $3M extra for that "upgrade". Think the money is best used elsewhere as a $6M Forward is muuuuch > $3M Forward more so than Doughty is > Mac. Hope my explanation makes sense. |
