personally I want to keep them both. Reality is they Flyers will not be bringing back Timonen or Meszaros so they will already need to replace 2 dmen.
- nastyflyergirl

Well if you keep what you have and give Gus a spot, then you've got:

Streit - Schenn
Coburn - Grossmann
Gustafsson - mystery man (Frederick Meyer IV?)

I think Lauridsen will be given every chance to earn a spot next year, and hopefully Alt plays well enough to earn a spot too.

Either he's ready or he isn't. His NHL make or break is talent, hard work and determination.

I'm with you on that one. Lets get rid of our only top 4 dman that can skate, brilliant!
- BiggE

My 2 cents. This defense has been horrible with any combo of Coburn (a big part of the suck the last couple seasons), mez, schenn, kimmo, grossmann... And now we can add streit. Its time to acknowledge the d needs a HUGE shakeup and stop clinging to the same players that have consistently been part of the problem. Look what this team did at the end of the last season without any of these guys I listed above.... They played very well and as a unit, not individuals. Trade them all, starting with coburn.... Fill in with guys like Gus, Lauridsen, Alt, Manning..... These guys are hungry to succeed unlike the current unit we have. If we stink next season great - give me mcdavid and let Morin and Haag develop so they can be prominent players in 2015.

Edit- can you tell I've had enough of this defense or lack there of

He's already pretty close to a bust, in my opinion. We keep hearing about this "potential", but as any smart fan knows potential is just a measure of how good you aren't. It's time for Morin to step up.

I'm with you. There's no love lost between me and any of the defense who's name doesn't rhyme with Kimonen.

Only Coburn, Schenn, and Grossmann have any trade value. I would be open to trading anyone, but only in a deal that brings either a top line scorer or a Number 1 defenseman. Other then that, no-one is going to want Mez or Timonen, and Streit has NMC I think and he will be here a while.

IMO out of the 3 guys with value, the last one you move is Grossmann. I only move L.Schenn id B.Schenn goes with him to get back a big name, Yakupov, Eberle, Weber. Coburn IMO can be the linch-pin in any move. The perfect "send me a d-man back" type of guy. Has the value, decent cap hit, and term.

The foundation for our defense is set. Gustefsson looks like he can be a 2nd pairing guy. Between Atl, Konan, and Gostisbere you can expect at least 1 other 2nd pairing guy. Between Haag and Morin I expect 1 top pairing guy, and Schenn would be another. Laurdisen I expect a bottom pairing guy.

We have 2 young D-man playing now we can keep for sometime. We have another 6 in the minors that have NHL potential. As long as 4 of them make it in some form, then the Defense has something to build on.

So in the meantime, unless you can get good players for Coburn, Schenn, or Grossmann let them play out thier time until these young guys are ready.

He's close to a bust? Already?

Without looking do you have any idea what he's doing in Rimouski this season?

Yeah I fully expect Timmonen to move to a play-off team at the trade deadline. But I seriously doubt we get more than a 2nd for him. At best.

Yep and the way he is playing I seriously doubt anyone gives us a first for Timmonen...
I could be pleasantly surprised... I hope I am!

Steve Mason was especially sharp today, knocking aside almost everything sent his way. At one point, the Vincent Lecavalier line skated in a three-man breakaway on the Flyers goaltender and Mason came up not only with the initial shot but a pair of rebounds.

Is this a function of how well Mason is playing , or how bad our offense is
