Is that in response to my post? I am not rewarding for being behind. If the entire goal of the NHL to create more scoring - why not reward the team that scores the tying goal? Think about it, it punishes the team that plays with a lead "not to lose" instead of "to win". I am totally shocked that most of you think this is too complicated, it is simple and a real representation of what a tie is, 1 team losing a point and one team earning a point. Jeez, no wonder Bettman has such a control on the league, there is a bunch of simple-minded fans to sell to.
- powerenforcer

It's not too complicated, its dumb. The entire goal of the NHL isn't more goal scoring. The league is thriving, despite goals being down and an embarrassing lockout, numbers as a whole are up across the board, in both TV and attendance. Also your logic is flawed, the best way to make sure you don't give up a one goal lead is to play more defensive, playing more offensive will lead to more opportunities against, meaning teams will play even less of an offensive risky game.

I still say it's TV more than the fans.

A shootout gives them a finite window for a game: from 2 1/2 to 3 hours, depending on how it ends. With so many NHL games going to extra-time - about 25%, much more than any other sport - they don't want to worry about 2, 3, 4 overtime games eating into subsequent programming.

I agree totally. Hate the gimmick. 10 minutes 4 on 4 and you won't see many ties. At least its some semblance of hockey.

Agreed.

However, the shootout isn't going away as long as Bettman is around. Really, it's a great gimmick that appeals to the fan who isn't really that in touch with Hockey. I think the shootout does help attract more of the public to the sport.

I don't like it myself, but it is what it is.

I agree and that's why I don't really care. If the sport doesn't thrive the cap stays low and the Hawks get screwed.

Did some back reading and I am left with one question. What will it take to get US jr at the TDL. He apparently has the red ass the Hawks need. He has to be better than Ott.

...another classic moment was when my son and another kid collided. They both fell and the other kid was on his stomach.......my son put his stick across the kids back and used it as leverage to help himself up....judging by the scream the other kid didn't like that....and I just put my head down waiting for someone to yell at me about my son........fortunately every one seemed calm....and I just took a deep breath....and yelled RED ASS in my head.

10 minutes of OT is about the same Saint. Call it a tie after that. You want that extra point, go get it. It will become like it was before OT where teams basically played for the tie the last 5 minutes or so of the game.

Your son and my oldest would get along famously US. Since she away at college, the text fly during the game. Hawks get down by a goal and I have to talk her off the ledge.

funny story US. I had several nephews involved in playing hockey. Was at a game with one of my cousins. Now, I may have a bit of the red ass myself. So before the game he says to me, don't be yelling at the refs. Midways through the first, the game is getting out of hand and my nephews get hit from behind. Before I could even react, my cousin is hanging over the glass yelling at the ref. I about peed myself laughing.

Apparently Fiddler is being shopped by Dallas. He'd look pretty damn good centering the 4th line.

He is a little hockey nut.....he always wears a jersey or hockey t shirt......conversations in the car are always about favorite teams.....always wants to hear about the players from my generation. He is learning the game and for his age he has a passion......Kid is pretty quiet and unassuming.......he gets on the ice and it's like....who is that?....totally different kid.

Speaking of rumors, have there been any whispers about the Hawks lately? Seems kinda quiet...

LOL.....it all started two years ago when he was 7.....he had been playing since he was four but as kids get older they get more competitive.....he was playing a game during camp and some kid knocked him over from behind.......a few minutes later the kid hits him again.......the period ended and I open the door to the rink and I call him over.....he skates over all upset and I tell him in his ear.......make sure that kid feels it when he hits you....he asks what I meant......told him to be a rock on his skates, lower the shoulder and make it hurt if he tries to knock you over again....make it so he won't want to hit you again, right now he thinks you're weak so he will keep doing it...keep your head up and make sure you know when he is coming.....sure enough the other kid tried to hit him and he fell to the ice after my son did what I said and didn't move......rock on his skates.....aaaah life lessons.....but in the end he gained confidence after that....red ass!!!

Can you believe it...the "World's Greatest Goalie" just gave up a second goal to the Devils...at the Garden no less!

How can that be?

Made a big splash today. I love the extension for Shaw. Kid has earned it. For lack of a better term, he is what I consider a secondary core guy.

They are usually quiet, but there are often rumors surrounding them. Is it too early in the season for any rumors?

I would think so. I think they want to see what they have in house first.

Getting a guy like Fiddler would be nice, but I don't expect Stan to make a move until closer to the deadline.
