What does he think of Corsi vs. Fenwick?

What about WAR? Oh, wrong sport.

- StLBravesFan

All I know is he has this large notebook he keeps game by game stats in....brings it with everywhere we go.....if he doesn't make the NHL as a player maybe he does as an assistant to the GM ......

i think it would be a hoot to do what they do in some kids leagues in Canada. Start at 4 on 4, then 3 on 3 and then 2 on 2 and if still tied with one minute to go, 1 on 1 (with the goalies in of course).

In 1 on 1, if his kid wins the faceoff and retieves the puck the smart coach then pulls his goalie and goes for the jugular.

Way too gimmicky for my blood.

10 minutes of 4 on 4, then it's a tie.

No three point games.

Loser points aren't ever going away because Bettman wants every team in contention as long as possible. Gary doesn't like tie games, he wants a winner and a loser no matter what gimicks are used to decide a game.

If he was the Commissioner of the NFL, lineman would be throwing balls thru hoola hoops if necessary to decide games.

You know what would be awesome? Jagr getting traded to the Pens, and then the Pens losing in the Cup Finals to the Hawks.

- EKolb13

That'd be something. The child and adult in me were on cloud nine seeing him go home Cup-less this past year though

In honor of your son, perhaps you should do a little photoshop edit and color a little red ass on the cat in your avatar?

Apparently they're looking at either:

10 minutes of 4 X 4, or
5 minutes of 4 X 4 and 5 minutes of 3 X 3

Either presumably followed by a shootout.

I would prefer 10 minutes of 4 X 4 - I think 3 X 3 would be too gimicky; also, too much time chasing pucks - too easy to clear pucks out of your end.

They should also go to 3-2-1-0 for points coming out of a game if they still want to reward a team for getting past regulation: 3 for a regulation win, 2 for an OT / SO win, 1 for an OT / SO loss, 0 for a regulation loss.

- StLBravesFan

Evidently Bettman is still reluctant to change point system....The one they have now makes for parity and decent TV ratings but is otherwise faulty.

Instead of a total loser point they should go 3 points for a win in regulation 2 points for the winner in OT and 1 for the loser

Problem is teams now playing for the tie - the point - in the OT - that's what they want to get away from.

I'm in the minority but I like the shootout in the regular season. I think its fun to watch, provides great highlights for extremely casual fans, and is a million times better than a tie. Tie's are so boring and frankly I'd be less interested in a game without a winner, and I think people would agree with me. 3x3 is more gimmicky than a shootout, a lot more penalty shots than actual ice time playing 3x3. They should go to the 3-2-1-0 point system though. Having each game produce a different amount of points is kind of illogical, but it helps with attendance I guess

I posted this a couple of blogs ago: my take on what the total cap hit for the Hawks could be in 2015-2016, after the Toews / Kane new contracts take effect:

Since I have no life, how's this for a cap calculation for 2015-2016 (and I'm sure everyone will jump all over my errors):

Kane - 9,000
Toews - 9,000
Sharp - 5,900
Hossa - 5,275
Bickell - 4,000
Kruger - 2,500
Saad - 2,500
Morin - 1,250
Pirri - 1,250
Shaw - 2,000
Bollig - 750
Smith - 750
Mills - 750
One - 1,000
14 Forwards = 45,925

Seabrook - 5,800
Keith - 5,538
HJ - 4,100
Leddy - 3,000
Kostka - 1,000
Clendenning - 750
One - 750
7 Defensemen = 20,938

Crawford - 6,000
One = 1,000
2 Goalies = 7,000

23 players = 73,863

Am I dramatically off anywhere?

- StLBravesFan

Forwards need TT and Danault. But that doesn't change much other than Morin and Smith/Mills won't be here for long. Probably a little high for Kruger as he'll still be an RFA. Hopefully Leddy is good enough to take Johnny O's spot, which is probably true as after a rough start Leddy is playing much better lately. Johns has been great at ND, I'd be surprised if he isn't on the team in two years. But the numbers seem pretty good. I really don't like 29's contract though, unless he's able to turn it on in the playoffs

I agree about ties but there are ways to cause teams to not go for ties....

Point system change is a big one. IMO the way the point system is now is the main cause for "parity" rather than the hard cap.

It is just a hokey way of ending a game and I bet if players were to vote in a secret ballot they would want it out.

So many of the most talented players don't like to be in the shootout.

I have no problem playing every game to a win - would prefer a shoot-out weren't involved - but make the point system logical.
